HC Kyle Shanahan has officially ruled QB Brock Purdy out for San Francisco's Week 2 trip to New Orleans. San Francisco will start Mac Jones in Purdy's place.
Purdy is dealing with a turf toe injury that will keep him out anywhere from 1-5 weeks.
Jones started 7 games for the Jaguars last season, posting 2 top-12 performances. He can be a credible reserve, but is an overall downgrade for San Francisco's pass catchers.
The 49ers also won't have TE George Kittle and WR Jauan Jennings is also banged up.
Expect WR RIcky Pearsall and RB Christian McCaffrey to be particularly busy in a good matchup.
Jones should be viewed as a desperation QB2 in Superflex leagues.
