Colts QB Daniel Jones is expected to miss six to eight months following Achilles surgery, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 28-year-old underwent surgery on Tuesday.
What They're Saying
Schefter writes that the Colts believe Jones could be "fully cleared" for the start of training camp, while calling a training camp return "an aggressive timeline."
Jones is also scheduled to become a free agent in the spring. So, how are the vibes between team and player?
Here's more from Schefter:
"Both Jones and the Colts, who were highly pleased with each other, have significant decisions to make. Jones is expected to be interested in returning to Indianapolis, but he also could have other options. The Colts are expected to try to re-sign Jones, but the question will be the cost. The Colts could opt to use the franchise tag on Jones, which is expected to come in around $45 million to $46 million this offseason, according to league sources."
Dynasty Impact
At 8-5, the Colts won't pick near the top of the 2026 NFL Draft. And unless you still believe in Anthony Richardson -- we don't -- they lack an in-house replacement.
So, odds are the Colts will make a good-faith effort to re-sign Jones, as Schefter laid out.
In the near term, Philip Rivers will try to finish out the season for Indy. Of course, he's not in the '26 picture. We believe the same is true of rookie Riley Leonard, who underwhelmed as a college passer and lasted until Round 6 of the 2025 draft.
Jones moved down our dynasty QB rankings following the injury. Still, he could provide a buy-low opportunity in superflex setups, especially if the news remains optimistic on his recovery.
