The Arizona Cardinals fired HC Jonathan Gannon after three seasons. This comes after the Cardinals went 3-14 in 2025. Gannon was a disappointment overall, going 15-36 over those three years. GM Monti Ossenfort will lead the search for a new head coach.
What They're Saying
Adam Schefter of ESPN: "Sources: Cardinals fired head coach Jonathan Gannon. Arizona closed this season with nine straight losses, ultimately costing Gannon his job. Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort will spearhead the search for a new head coach.
Along with hiring a new HC, Arizona will have a major QB decision to make this offseason with Kyler Murray, who is guaranteed $36.8 million in 2026. On the fifth day of the new league year in mid-March, another $19.5 million of Murray’s 2027 base salary becomes guaranteed if he is still on the roster."
Fantasy Football Impact
Gannon had some support among players with TE Trey McBride commenting yesterday that he would like Gannon back. That wasn't enough to save Gannon's job however.
The major decision for the Cardinals front office and new head coach will be the future of QB Kyler Murray. He is a candidate to be cut or traded if the team decides to move in a new direction.
With the third pick in the draft, the Cardinals could have an opportunity to draft a new young QB.
QB Jacoby Brissett provided a spark for the passing game in 2025 and he is signed through 2026. Brissett could start the season as a bridge QB if the Cardinals look to the draft.
