According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, "All signs are pointing towards Eric Bieniemy returning to the Chiefs as their offensive coordinator." Matt Nagy served as OC in 2025 and the previous two years, his second stint with the team. His contract runs out at the end of this NFL season, and K.C.'s reportedly expecting Nagy to land a head-coaching gig somewhere in this cycle. Bieniemy actually took over as Chiefs OC the last time Nagy left (for the Chicago head job in 2018) and stayed in that role through 2022.
Fantasy Football Impact
Bieniemy's first run as Kansas City's coordinator coincided with QB Patrick Mahomes' first starting campaign. (And also followed his five years as RBs coach.)
The Chiefs ranked among the top 6 in yards and points in each of Bieniemy's previous five years as OC. Four of his five teams ranked among the top 9 in pass attempts, while all five checked in 20th or lower in rushing attempts.
Of course, that lines up with the passing lean of Andy Reid's Kansas City offenses, which perennially rank toward the top of the league in neutral pass rate.
We're not overrating the impact of the Nagy-to-Bieniemy switch in an Andy Reid-Patrick Mahomes offense. More impactful for fantasy will be factors such as:
- Mahomes' knee recovery (duh)
- Whether TE Travis Kelce returns
- WR Rashee Rice's legal status
- What the team does with the backfield.
