The Cowboys are expected to place the franchise tag on WR George Pickens, ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed this week. Owner Jerry Jones said he'd like to keep Pickens in Dallas for "a long time." But Rapoport believes a tag-and-trade remains a possibility. "The Cowboys have shown a willingness to trade their star players for significant draft pick compensation," Rapoport notes, referring to Micah Parsons. Pickens and Parsons notably share the same agent.
Fantasy Football Impact
Pickens was awesome for Dallas last year, posting a 93-1429-9 line and finishing sixth among WRs in PPR points. He ranked top-10 among 111 qualifying WRs in:
- Yards per route (9th)
- Pro Football Focus receiving grade (8th)
- ESPN receiver score (4th)
Although concerns remain about his snap-to-snap effort level, Pickens is a high-end talent just hitting his prime. He turns 25 in March.
There'd be no shortage of suitors if the Cowboys are serious about trading Pickens. A move out of Dallas would give Pickens a chance to be a true No. 1 WR. But it'd also likely mean a downgrade in environment. Last year's Cowboys finished seventh in points, second in total yards, and second in passing yards.
Pickens comes with a relatively wide range of outcomes in early fantasy drafts. But he's a fine value at his WR9 ADP.
