Former 49ers RB Brian Robinson Jr. is expected to sign with the Atlanta Falcons as a likely replacement for Tyler Allgeier, who signed with the Cardinals at the start of free agency. Robinson opened his NFL career with three straight 700+ rushing-yard seasons in Washington, peaking with 8 TDs in 2024. He was traded to the 49ers before the 2025 season. After spending a year backing up Christian McCaffrey, Robinson now projects as the No. 2 behind Bijan Robinson.
What They're Saying
Sources: The Falcons are expected to sign former 49ers RB Brian Robinson Jr., per sources.
Robinson has over 2,700 yards rushing, 612 yards receiving and 22 total TDs in four NFL seasons.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
The Falcons landing spot is disappointing for hopes of Robinson returning to a featured role. Over his first three seasons in Washington, Robinson averaged:
- 190 carries
- 776.33 rushing yards
- 5 rushing TDs
Last year, he totaled:
- 92 carries
- 400 yards
- 2 rushing TDs
One potential benefit is the opportunity to replace Tyler Allgeier’s production. Last season, Allgeier posted:
- 143 carries
- 514 rushing yards
- 8 rushing TDs
With Allgeier gone, Robinson could step into that role. Bijan will carry the load, but Robinson’s usage should increase from what we saw in San Francisco. At worst, he becomes an elite handcuff.
New HC Kevin Stefanski adds another layer. He leaned heavily on Nick Chubb in Cleveland, so expect a similar approach with Bijan, while Robinson mixes in for complementary work.
Robinson being added shouldn't impact Bijan much, but it does make the difference between him and Jahmyr Gibbs razor thin.
