The Chargers have exercised the fifth-year option on WR Quentin Johnston's contract. That keeps him signed through 2027 and will pay him $18 million guaranteed in that final year of the deal. The Chargers' brass had previously been non-committal on the option, perhaps waiting to see what the draft brought to the WR room.
What They're Saying
GM Joe Hortiz on the WR room in mid-April: "Just the development all those guys have made, starting with Quentin Johnston, watching him get better year after year after year. And then Ladd McConkey, and then Tre Harris’ development and progression through the season. KeAndre Lambert-Smith was coming on before getting hurt.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Johnston is coming off a 51-735-8 line in 14 games, finishing WR27 in PPR points per game.
He lived off TDs, tying for ninth among WRs despite ranking outside the top 30 in both catches and yards. Johnston's target share dipped from 20.7% in 2024 to 18.3% last year, though. And his yards per route sunk from 1.77 to 1.51.
It was an underwhelming third season, and Johnston must now learn a new offense under OC Mike McDaniel. The fifth-year option means the Chargers still have plans for Johnston. But we'll see how he fits alongside Ladd McConkey, Tre Harris, and fourth-round rookie Brenen Thompson.
Johnston is shaping up as a reserve in redraft leagues and a WR4 or WR5 on best ball rosters.
He's fairly priced at his WR48 ADP.
