After averaging only 11.0 fantasy points per game as a rookie, there was plenty of reason for optimism about a second-year leap to begin in Week 1 against a Jets defense that gave up the most passing TDs last season. Unfortunately, Ward finished with 11.7 fantasy points after completing 19 of 32 pass attempts for 140 yards and a TD while adding 21 yards on the ground.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: The Trend Is Getting Scary
There has been plenty put in place to give Ward the best possible chance at a successful second season. That includes bringing in new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and adding a WR with their top five pick in Carnell Tate.
But with this latest performance adding to a collection of poorly produced weeks, we’re slowly being presented with a scary trend.
His 11.7 fantasy-point performance on Sunday marks the 12th time he’s been held below 12 fantasy points across his now 18-game career. The only other first overall picks to produce less than 14 fantasy points per game in each of their first two seasons are Sam Bradford and Bryce Young.
The next chance for Ward to rebound and make strides toward a second-year leap will come next week against a projected much tougher defense in the Eagles.
