Saints QB Drew Brees is dealing with a ligament injury to his throwing thumb and is "looking at missing some game time," according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The team is expected to have a better idea of Brees' status after he visits a hand specialist in Los Angeles on Monday. Former Head Team Dr. David Chao believes Brees could return in 2-3 weeks -- but adds that he might need surgery, which would sideline him "into November." We'll continue to update this situation as we learn more.

Saints QB Drew Brees will visit a hand specialist in Los Angeles to examine his injured right thumb, he told ESPN's Josina Anderson. Brees added that "he is concerned and that it could be significant," per Anderson. Brees only briefly tried to throw after suffering the injury, and it looked like it was uncomfortable just to even hold the ball. Brees owners should be bracing for a multi-week absence. We should learn more tomorrow.

Saints QB Drew Brees hurt his right thumb in the 1st quarter of Sunday's game against the Rams when banged it on Aaron Donald's hand on a follow through. Brees got the thumb taped up and briefly tried to throw on the sidelines. But he's now standing on the sidelines without a helmet. QB Teddy Bridgewater is in the game.

QB Drew Brees, RB Alvin Kamara and WR Ted Ginn are all healthy scratches for today's meaningless finale against the Panthers. RB Mark Ingram and WR Michael Thomas are active, but don't expect them to play. Dwayne Washington figures to serve as New Orleans' lead back, with Tre'Quan Smith, Keith Kirkwood, Austin Carr and TommyLee Lewis at WR.

Saints QB Teddy Bridgewater will start this weekend's finale against the Panthers, HC Sean Payton said Friday. So QB Drew Brees will get the day off. We'd expect the same for RBs Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram and WR Michael Thomas. Dwayne Washington figures to serve as New Orleans' lead back vs. Carolina, with Tre'Quan Smith, Keith Kirkwood and Austin Carr handling most of the WR duties. It's unclear how much WR Ted Ginn will play after returning last week.

Saints QB Drew Brees said there's "no doubt" QB Teddy Bridgewater will play against the Panthers on Sunday. “It’s just a matter of how much." The last time the Saints had the #1 seed locked up heading into the finale, Brees didn't play a single snap. Don't expect to see much, if any, of him this weekend. Bridgewater is in play for DFS tournaments, although he probably won't get to throw to guys like Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara.

WR Dez Bryant has finally found a home, inking a 1-year deal with the Saints. The 30-year-old looked like a player in decline last season, averaging a career-low 12.1 yards per catch. He seems best-suited as a possession receiver at this point, which is the role he might be stepping into with the Saints. Bryant would look good as a big slot WR between Michael Thomas and Tre'Quan Smith. From a fantasy perspective, Bryant figures to duke it out for targets with Smith behind top dogs Thomas and Alvin Kamara. Dez is worth adding in most fantasy leagues, but we'd consider him just a WR4 for now. We'll see how quickly he can settle into the offense. Smith's value takes a considerable hit with Bryant's arrival.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Jets have agreed to trade QB Teddy Bridgewater to the Saints for an undisclosed draft pick. In New York (or New Jersey), that supports the anticipated move of naming Sam Darnold the Week 1 starter and leaves Josh McCown as the backup. On the other side, the level of the draft pick might tell us how interested we should be. If it's a late conditional pick, then maybe the Jets just couldn't find the market they hoped for Bridgewater. A pick closer to the middle of the draft, however, could point to the Saints eyeing Bridgewater as a potential successor for Drew Brees. We'll keep an eye on that. For 2018, of course, Bridgewater holds no fantasy relevance unless Brees goes down. Should that happen, though, Bridgewater would be a lot more interesting than he'd be as the 2nd or 3rd man in for the Jets. Bridgewater looks like a dynasty hold -- unless you can get a nice package from the Brees owner in your league.

Update: NFL Network's Mike Silver reports the Saints gave a 3rd-round pick. That seems to indicate they plan to try to keep Bridgewater beyond 2018 and/or believe they can recoup the pick via the league's compensatory calculations after Bridgewater signs elsewhere in free agency.

The Saints and QB Drew Brees have agreed to a 2-year, $50 million contract with $27 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network. This deal took a bit longer than expected to materialize, but Brees was never leaving New Orleans. While his 10th-place fantasy finish this past season was his worst as a Saint, Brees remained as effective as ever. He set a career high with a 72.0% completion rate, averaged 8.1 yards per attempt and tossed 23 TDs vs. just 8 INTs. His fantasy ceiling has been capped in New Orleans' RB-centric offense, but Brees will remain 1 of the safest QB1 bets in 2018 fantasy drafts.

Saints LT Terron Armstead suffered a torn shoulder labrum Wednesday that will require surgery. According to ESPN, he's expected to miss 4-6 months. The short end of that span would make Armstead available in mid-October, but it's tough to imagine his upper-body strength being ready for the rigors of NFL blocking right away. New Orleans will have to approach the season as though it won't have it's star LT. That's obviously a significant blow to Drew Brees' pass protection and a challenge for the Saints' running game. We're not downgrading their fantasy prospects at this point, because New Orleans has delivered big offensive numbers for so long under Brees and HC Sean Payton. But losing Armstead adds downside risk and could be a tie-breaker if you're weighing Mark Ingram or Adrian Peterson against the next guy on your fantasy football draft list.

For the 2nd straight week, Saints QB Drew Brees posted 0 TDs and 3 INTs. This time it came against Tampa Bay’s streaking defense, one that limited him to just 6.3 yards per attempt. Brees simply wasn't making sound decisions, either. He did appear to connect with Brandin Cooks for a short-range score, but the hookup was overturned on replay. Brees’ struggles could continue next week with a road date at Arizona on the schedule. Consider him a low-end QB1 for that one.

Saints HC Sean Payton hasn't noticed any signs of decline from 37-year-old QB Drew Brees. "I have not seen -- there's not a rep, a play where I've noticed something different," Payton said. "We know how he trains, his diet, everything in his day to prepare to play well at that position." If we're being literal, Brees' numbers have actually decreased in each of the past 4 seasons. But that's starting from a sky-high 5,476-yard, 46-TD 2011 campaign. His 4,870 yards and 32 scores last year ranked 1st and 7th, respectively. Brees has finished 10 straight seasons among the top 6 QBs in fantasy points. He's a good bet to make it 11 in a row this year.

Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) is active for today’s game against the Jaguars. He was noticeably hobbled by that foot injury last week but chucked 3 TDs after returning for the 2nd half. Brees is a strong fantasy play vs. Jacksonville’s 31st-ranked QB defense.

Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) will start against the Jaguars later today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.  Brees practiced on Friday and seemed optimistic about his status all week.  After tearing his plantar fascia late in the 2nd quarter of last Monday night's game, Brees returned for the 2nd half to complete 21 of 31 passes for 231 yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs.  The foot issue adds some risk, but Brees has high-end QB1 upside at home against a bad Jacksonville pass defense.

Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) returned to a limited practice Friday after sitting out Thursday and showing up as "did not practice" in a simulated injury report for Wednesday. New Orleans officially lists him as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. Brees has said he'll play, but we'll have to track this situation Sunday morning.

Saints HC Sean Payton said QB Drew Brees (foot) will get in a "very limited" practice on Thursday.  He truly seems day-to-day, and his status for this weekend's game against the Jaguars will likely depend on how his foot responds to workouts over the next few days.  Saints-Jags doesn't kick off until 4:05 pm ET, but hopefully we'll find out Brees' status by Sunday morning.

Saints HC Sean Payton said Wednesday that it'll be "Sunday morning" before he reveals whether QB Drew Brees will play against the Jaguars. “We’re kind of taking it day by day,” Payton told the New Orleans Advocate. “I know he’s had it looked at, he’s had an MRI. I think each day we’ll gather more information and have a better idea of where he’s going to be as it pertains to playing in this game or not.” Brees reportedly wants to play and did stay on the field after suffering the injury Monday night. But you should certainly secure some insurance this week if Brees has been your regular starter. We'll hope to get a read on his likely effectiveness (or lack thereof) before the early games on Sunday. If Brees sits, the Saints would turn to either veteran Matt Flynn or rookie Garrett Grayson. Either would obviously present a significant downgrade from normal Brees level for all New Orleans pass-catchers.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that Saints QB Drew Brees (foot) is in "horrible, miserable" pain.  He didn't practice on Wednesday but remains "intent" on playing this weekend, per Rapoport.  Brees is an ironman, but New Orleans might not want to throw him out there if he can't be mobile enough to protect himself.  We'll continue to keep an eye on his status.

ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Saints QB Drew Brees suffered a torn plantar fascia in his right foot in Monday night's loss to the Lions. Brees still hopes to play through the injury the next 2 weeks, and he wouldn't be the 1st to do so. A complete tear can actually help a player vs. a partial tear by causing less pain in the foot. But Brees drives off that right foot to pass, so the injury's sure to affect him. He still looks like a fantasy starter against the Jaguars this week -- assuming his practice week goes OK -- but the ceiling comes down at least a bit.
