Drew Brees is the 2008 AP Offensive Player of the Year. His numbers demanded the award - 5,069 yards, 34 TD passes, 96.2 rating, 65% completions - especially after he didn't get a single MVP vote. Brees had 10 300-yard game, tying the NFL record held by Rich Gannon. He also missed Dan Marino's yardage record of 5,084 by one short-hopped pass with :01 left in the season. The Saints had the #1 offense for the 2nd time in 3 years despite injuries all around him. Their 8-8 record still could have easily been 10-6 or 11-5, but they lost 5 games by a field goal or less. Brees finished 2nd in both the MVP and Offensive POY voting in 2006.

Drew Brees passed for 386 yards and 4 TDs in the wild 33-31 loss to Carolina. He finishes with 5,069 passing yards, 2nd-most in history and just 16 short of breaking Dan Marino's 25-year old record. Panthers HC John Fox inadvertently made it exciting when he called timeout with :06 left to kick the game-winning field goal. When John Kasay's kick sailed through there was :01 left. Then Kasay kicked the ball out of bounds so it was Saints' ball with :01 still up! One play for the record... Brees dropped back... fired a 25-yard pass down the seam... but it fell short of Lance Moore. The incredible thing about Brees' effort was that he only had 8 yards in the 1st quarter. He threw for 153 yards & 3 TDs in the 4th quarter!

Drew Brees has 4,683 passing yards through 15 games and needs 402 yards against the Panthers to break Dan Marino's record of 5,084 in 1984. "It's a significant record,'' Sean Payton said. "It's a milestone that is fairly uncommon, but honestly it hasn't been a point of discussion with he, or I, or the offense at all." Payton will certainly have the record in mind but 402 on Carolina, even at home, is very tough. If he hits a couple deep shots early it could get interesting. Brees currently ranks #1 in completions (383) and passing yards (4,683), 2nd in TD passes (30), and 2nd in yards per attempt (7.99).  He's going to get MVP votes, even on a .500 team, because he's had this monster season despite injuries all around him. Reggie Bush, Marques Colston, and Jeremy Shockey have missed a combined 16 games.

Drew Brees threw for 232 yards and 2 TDs in the 27-24 loss to Chicago. He was harassed early and didn't find a rhythm until the 3rd quarter. Brees threw 2 INTs, one of which was fired right in DE Adewale Ogunleye's mitts. That was a 1st-and-goal pass where Robert Meachem was waving his arms in the end zone but Brees didn't see him. Brees' first TD was a dump-screen to Pierre Thomas (their new money play) and the 2nd was a laser to Marques Colston. This was the 9th time in 14 games Brees has thrown at least 2 TDs. He's up to 4,332 yards and 28 TDs on the year. Detroit is up next in week 16.

Saints LT Jammal Brown is out Thursday night at Chicago with an ankle injury. Zach Strief will replace him. Strief has been in this system for 3 yards and will do fine.

The weather forecast in Tampa calls for scattered showers and heavy winds near 20 mph during the game. Brees stays in your lineup unless a tropical cyclone hits.

Saints RT Jon Stinchcomb (calf) practiced on a limited basis Thursday. He was injured in week 10 but gutted it out last week with no setbacks.  He'll start vs. Green Bay.

Drew Brees threw for 323 yards & 4 TDs in the 51-29 win over the Packers. He only missed on 6 of his 26 passes. His main targets were Lance Moore (5-115-2 TDs) and Jeremy Shockey (5-57-0), and he also hit Marques Colston and Billy Miller for TDs. Brees was only sacked once and rarely pressured all night. It was his 9th straight game with a 40+ yard completion, a new NFL record. He's now at 3,574 passing yards, so he only needs to average 303 from here to break Dan Marino's record of 5,084. He's also topped a 100 QB rating in 18 of his last 40 games, compared to Peyton Manning who's done it 16 times. Brees is in the hunt for MVP as long as the 6-5 Saints finish strong. He travels to Tampa Bay this week. Not an ideal matchup, though Brees has 10 TDs and 2 INTs in their last 5 meetings. Ride him.

Saints QB Drew Brees continues to stuff fantasy lineups full of points. He completed 31-of-58 passes for 422 yards & 2 TDs at Atlanta. He did throw 3 INTs, his most picks since week 3 of last year. It was looking iffy at halftime, as Atlanta held him to 112 yards & 0 TDs. But he totally erupted on come-from-behind passing and even chucked a garbage Hail Mary 32-yard TD to Lance Moore to end the game. Brees is the #1 fantasy QB with 2,985 passing yards and 17 TDs. Brees has hit 300 yards and/or 2+ TDs in 16 of his last 20 games. And he only needs to average 299.9 yards per game to break Dan Marino's record of 5,084 yards. Next up for the Saints are the injury-riddled Chiefs and Packers defenses. With a healthy Marques Colston on board the numbers should continue to flow.

The weather forecast 2 hours before London kickoff is 55 degrees, 30% chance of light rain, winds from W 9 mph.

Drew Brees is coming off his worst game since week 3 of 2007 (vs. Tennessee) and will face his ex-Chargers teammates in London. "I'd be lying if I told you it was just any other game," Brees said. "But certainly I'm not blowing it out of proportion, and I'm not putting any added pressure on myself or my team. I still know a lot of those players. I'm friends with a lot of those players." Brees should bounce back vs. a defense that allowed Jay Cutler and Brett Favre to combine for 621 yards and 7 TDs.

Reggie Bush (knee), Marques Colston, (thumb), and Jeremy Shockey (groin) are listed as probable. We raised Drew Brees' projected Week 7 yardage to a spooky 350 yards. He even has WR David Patten (groin) back too.

Saints QB Drew Brees threw for 320 yards & 3 TDs vs. the Raiders. He has 1,993 yards after 6 games.  To break Dan Marino's single-season record of 5,084 yards Brees needs 3,092 yards in 10 games -- or an average of 309 yards per game.

Saints QB Drew Brees passed for 330 yards and 1 TD vs. the Vikings. He did throw a couple picks but one was Lance Moore's fault. If Moore holds onto a pass, and earlier the referee calls a face-mask penalty on Minnesota, then Brees probably throws 3 TDs.  He's still a machine despite lacking Marques Colston, Jeremy Shockey, and David Patten. Brees has 17 300-yard games since 2006, most in the NFL. He's also attempted 40+ passes in 17 of his last 37 games, thanks to Sean Payton's playbook. Leave Brees in regardless of matchup or personnel.

USA Today reports Saints QB Drew Brees has passed for 1,343 yards, the 6th-most passing yards in NFL history after 4 games.

Saints left tackle Jammal Brown left before halftime with a groin injury. Zach Strief, a 7th round pick from Northwestern in 2006, filled in pretty well. "I thought by and large we had time to throw," Sean Payton said. "We had the one holding call on the screen that brought back a big play, but we were able to score on that drive. Overall, I thought he [Strief] played pretty well." Brees threw for 421 yards and 1 TD. However, if Jamal Brown misses an extended period of time it will affect this offense. For more on Week 3's injuries, see the Monday Morning Injury Recap under Articles/Features.

Saints LG Jamar Nesbit has been suspended 4 games for violating the league's steroid policy. LT Jammal Brown is questionable with a groin injury so Drew Brees' line has seen better days. Plus he lost TE Jeremy Shockey (hernia) for 3-6 weeks. He's dropping out of our top-5 in the Rest Of Way rankings.  Some good news: We're told by a good source that Marques Colston (left thumb surgery) "might get back out there for the Oakland game [in week 6]."

Saints insider Jeff Duncan says: "Jammal Brown worked with the first team offense during Wednesday's practice. So it looks like he'll be good to go for the 49ers."

Saints QB Drew Brees tore up the Bengals defense last night for 199 yards and 1 TD in less than 1 half of action. This came without TE Jeremy Shockey too. It looks like Brees has picked up right where he left off last year. HC Sean Payton loves to air it out, so Brees should lead the NFL in pass attempts again this year.

The Times-Picayune reports: "One player who appears healthy for the first time in a Saints uniform is receiver Robert Meachem. After battling a knee injury for most of last season, the second-year pro looked healthy, fluid and comfortable running routes on the field. Meachem has gotten rave reviews... showing a great attitude and work ethic after a disappointing rookie season." Indeed, Meachem was invisible last year. No one in your fantasy league even remembers he's in the NFL because they'll be looking at last year's stats. Not at Draft Sharks. We're already a step ahead on Meachem, allotting him the #43 spot with a bullet on the Dynasty/Keeper Rankings.  Just go click on Articles/Features above and check it out!
