Packers RB Eddie Lacy (concussion) missed practice again on Thursday, but HC Mike McCarthy isn't ready to rule his rookie out for Week 3 yet.  "The medical staff still feels like he has a good opportunity (to play)," McCarthy said.  He added that Lacy would need to practice on Friday in order to play against the Bengals this weekend.  Fantasy owners still shouldn't count on having Lacy for Week 3, but check back tomorrow for another update.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy confirmed after Wednesday's practice that RB James Starks will start Sunday against the Bengals.  The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that McCarthy said RB Eddie Lacy is making progress from his Week 2 concussion but has a few more tests to pass before he can return.  On defense, the team will once again miss CB Casey Hayward (hamstring) in Week 3.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy (concussion) did not practice Wednesday.  It's a good sign that he's yet to pass his baseline tests.  We'd consider him unlikely to do so in time for this weekend's game against the Bengals.  In that case, RB James Starks would draw the start.  Green Bay has a Week 4 bye, so Lacy might end up missing just 1 game.

Packers HC Mike McCarthy declined to update RB Eddie Lacy's status during his Monday press conference.  Lacy left Sunday's win over Washington early with a concussion.  “I stand up here on Mondays and a lot of the times there’s more testing going on,” McCarthy said, per ESPN. “And based on the protocol of the league, we’re going to follow it, so we’ll have an update for you on Wednesday.”  On the bright side, at least Green Bay has yet to say that Lacy will miss any games.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy left Sunday's game after taking a shot to the head on his 1st carry.  He went back to the locker room, presumably for concussion testing.  We'll update his status when we learn more.

Update: Lacy has been ruled out for the game.  He finishes with 1 carry for 10 yards.  James Starks will serve as Green Bay's lead back the rest of the way.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that the Packers plan to give RB Eddie Lacy 20-22 carries against Washington today.  Not surprising considering the way Philadelphia ran all over Washington in the opener.  We wouldn't expect LeSean McCoy output from the Green Bay rookie, but he makes for an attractive RB2 this week.

The weather forecast for today's Redskins-Packers game calls for 60% chance of rain.  That's obviously not ideal for the passing games.  Wind isn't expected to be a factor, though, so we're not moving any of the players in this game down our rankings.  But it will be interesting to see how QB Robert Griffin looks on his surgically-repaired knee in the wet conditions.  NFL Network's Albert Breer says the 'Skins aren't planning on revising their game plan.  RG3 is a risk/reward QB1 in fantasy.

Insider Tom Silverstein believes RB Eddie Lacy is a perfect fit in the Packers' offense.  "Lacy runs like he was born to be in coach Mike McCarthy's offense," Silverstein writes.  "Lacy knows where to go, how fast he needs to get there and when to hit the gas."  RB coach Alex Van Pelt has been impressed by the finer points of Lacy's game.  "He's a patient runner," Van Pelt said. "But once that decision has been made, it's north and south. That's the strong point of him. You rarely see him make a bad read in the running game. It's just a natural thing as a runner.  He's always on track, he's always making the right reads and anticipates where the hole is going to be."  Lacy's reps have been limited lately as he deals with a bum hamstring, but team isn't concerned about his Week 1 status.  He now seems like a sure bet to open the season as Green Bay's lead back.  Injury is the only thing standing between him and RB2 production.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy returned to practice Thursday after sitting out Wednesday's workout with a sore hamstring.  The rookie has been rolling the past few days.  Barring injury, he'll open the season as Green Bay's lead back.  That'll give him RB2 upside in fantasy leagues.

Former Packers beat writer and new ESPN reporter Rob Demovsky had this to say about rookie RB Eddie Lacy on Wednesday, "He's going to be their starting running back, based on the way he's played in camp."  That falls in line with reports following Green Bay's Saturday scrimmage -- and our expectation all along.  If Lacy gets through the preseason without injury, he should get primary carries in a Green Bay offense loaded with scoring opportunities.  WR Jordy Nelson's knee injury could sneak even further value into the backfield by putting a big question mark on QB Aaron Rodgers' primary deep threat.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy was held out of practice on Wednesday with a hamstring injury.  The team doesn't believe it's a long-term concern, but hamstrings are always worth monitoring.  It's bad timing for Lacy, who was starting to build some serious momentum.  We'll see if Johnathan Franklin, Alex Green or James Starks can take advantage of his absence.

Two days after dominating an intrasquad scrimmage, Packers RB Eddie Lacy ran as the feature back in Tuesday workouts.  The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that Lacy "easily" saw the largest share of 1st-team snaps at the position.  RBs DuJuan Harris (PUP) and Alex Green sat out, but this still seems to indicate that Lacy is climbing the depth chart -- as expected.  He remains the best bet for fantasy production in a fairly muddled Green Bay backfield.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy shined in the team's intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday night.  He carried 8 times for 65 yards, ripping off runs of 16 and 19 yards.  "You see what he can do with his speed and cuts," RBs coach Alex Van Pelt.  "His change of direction has been really good. That's where he shines. He can stick his foot in the ground."  Lacy's training camp reviews have been mixed, but he's the type of runner who will always look better in full contact work.  He remains the favorite to be Green Bay's lead back this year.  Lacy is a fine value at his current 5th-round ADP.

The Packers' veteran RBs are stepping up in the face of increased competition.  James Starks and Alex Green have both looked good through the 1st week of camp.  RBs coach Alex Van Pelt says Starks has been “outstanding” and running “extremely hard, violent.”  Green looks “night and day” compared to last year, per Van Pelt.  Rookies Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin remain the favorites to lead this backfield in touches. But insider Rob Demovsky believes it "would be wrong to discount" Starks and Green.  Fantasy owners need to be hoping this doesn't turn into a 3- or 4-headed RB-by-committee.

Packers RB Eddie Lacy had his conditioning called into question Monday after an unflattering picture from training camp swirled across the internet.  But apparently the picture was simply a "bad angle," and Lacy is reportedly doing just fine in the fitness department.  "Going through the (conditioning) test, he was fine," said HC Mike McCarthy.   "If we had any concern about any of our guys, they wouldn't be on the field."  Monday wasn't the 1st time Lacy has had his conditioning called into question.  Some pre-draft reports pegged him as being out of shape, a factor that might have caused his stock to fall in April.  He's currently listed at a sturdy 5-10, 223 pounds.  Lacy should exit camp with the #1 RB job in Green Bay, but fellow rookie RB Johnathan Franklin is showing promise as well.  The duo will be worth monitoring over the coming weeks.

Durability concerns were the main reason Packers RB Eddie Lacy dropped to the 61st pick of April's draft.  But Lacy revealed that teams also questioned his passion for football.  "I know a lot of teams questioned how much I love football because I don't talk about it 24/7," Lacy said. "But I feel like it's not how much you know about it or how much you watch it. It's all about production and obviously up to this point I did what I was supposed to do. You put me on the field and I'll contribute."  There's no arguing that.  Lacy was a stud at Alabama and has the requisite size and athleticism to dominate at the NFL level.  For now, we're not worried about any questions about his passion for the game.  It's simply something to keep in mind going forward.

The Packers are shuffling around their offensive line for the 2013 season.  Former RT Bryan Bulaga and RG Josh Sitton are moving to the left side, Aaron Rodgers' blind side.  T.J. Lang will move to RG, while Marshall Newhouse will head to camp as the favorite for the starting RT job.  Evan Dietrich-Smith, who played well late last year, will stay at C.  We like the moves for Rodgers and the rest of Green Bay's skill-position guys.  Bulaga and Sitton are the unit's most accomplished players, so having them on the left side makes sense.  And considering the Packers allowed 51 sacks last year -- 2nd-most in the league -- it can't get much worse.  “I think they’re going to be fine there,” Rodgers said. “It’s just a matter of all of us working together and getting used to their stance and the calls and the plays, but our offense can mirror itself at times with runs and passes. It’s the same terminology, so they’ll be fine. Everybody is on board with it and we’re excited to move forward.”

Alabama's team doctor doesn't believe Packers RB Eddie Lacy's big toe is a "legitimate concern" going forward.  Lacy underwent surgery on the digit prior to last season.  "The joint underneath the toenail was fused to allow the ligament to work better basically," the doc explained. "It's something you do to give you a better push-off. His big toe moves just like a normal big toe in terms of motion... If you fused it completely, it'd give you a stiff big toe and you can't push off and that's a big problem. In Eddie's case, he does not have that. His fusion does not affect his big-toe motion."  Lacy started to have pain in the toe back in 2011.  He played through it that year, averaging 7.1 yards per carry as Trent Richardson's caddy.  Lacy underwent surgery after that season and returned to rack up 1,322 yards and 17 scores in 2012.  He hasn't had a setback with the toe since going under the knife.  "I expect Eddie Lacy to have a long, productive NFL career," Alabama's doctor said.  "I don't think the toe will be a problem in his career."

Packers HC Mike McCarthy suggested that rookie RB Eddie Lacy fits with some changes the team is making to its offense this season.  "We've made some scheme adjustments that we've (provided), visiting with our players the last two weeks," McCarthy said. "We have already started that process. Lacy, frankly will fit into some of these changes we've made. We'll see how it goes through the off-season and training camp. I'm excited about it."  McCarthy didn't elaborate on exactly what those changes our, but we're guessing they involve more "power" looks to get the ground game going.  What is becoming crystal clear is that the Packers want to run the ball more in 2013.  Lacy figures to be a big part of that. "Obviously, with Lacy being such a big, strong, powerful runner, I think he has a lot better feet than people realize," McCarthy added. "He's obviously an accomplished player."

Packers RB Eddie Lacy says he's back to 100%. "From Day 1, I'm going to be ready to go," he said recently. Lacy was plagued by a bum hamstring for a few months this offseason. He also dealt with knee and pectoral problems. He suffered toe, elbow and hand injuries while at Alabama. We recently learned that the toe required surgery last offseason. The sketchy medical history caused Lacy to fall to the Packers at the bottom of Round 2. He could prove to be an absolute steal there. If healthy, Lacy has the size and skill set to be a dominant NFL RB. For more on his 2013 outlook, check out our Top 10 Fantasy-Impact Rookies.
