Garrett Nussmeier Ends Free Fall in Round 7

The Kansas City Chiefs selected LSU QB Garrett Nussmeier in Round 7 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Nussmeier showcased NFL upside in 2024 throwing for 4,052 yards with 29 TDs and 12 INTs. Nussmeier suffered a core injury before the 2025 season which affects his play. He would miss the final four games ending the season with 1,927 yards with 12 TDs and 5 INTs. He did increase his completion percentage from 64.2% in 2024 to 67.4% in 2025. Nussmeier also does have negative rushing yards in each of the last two seasons, profiling as a pocket passer at the next level. Among the 15 QBs invited to the NFL Combine, Simpson ranked eighth in 2025 adjusted completion percentage (77.4%), but dead last in aDOT (7.0). He also ranked eighth in 2025 Big Time Throw rate (4.5%) and 15th in rushing yards per game when removing sacks (7.1). He is currently 24 years old.

Saints QB Competition Has Volatile Frontrunner

Saints QB Spencer Rattler appears to be leading the battle despite some up-and-down play in training camp so far, according to WWL Radio's Jeff Nowak. He ran with the first team today. His competition, rookie Tyler Shough, has been fairly risk-averse over the first few days. Jake Haener is also in the mix. The situation remains unresolved.

Derek Carr "Very Likely" Done For The Season

Saints QB Derek Carr (hand) is "very likely" to miss the rest of the season, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Carr underwent further examination recently and he’s at least a few weeks away from being able to withstand contact," Rapoport adds. Carr can be dropped in all redraft leagues. We're projecting the Saints to go back to QB Spencer Rattler for Monday night's game against the Packers. But, whether it's Rattler or Jake Haener, you should stay away from Saints QBs in fantasy lineups.

Saints Turn to Spencer Rattler in Second Half

The Saints yanked QB Jake Haener at halftime for Spencer Rattler and nearly came back to beat the Commanders. Rattler went just 10-of-21 passing for 135 yards and a TD but didn't turn the ball over and took no sacks. Haener threw for just 49 yards on 4-of-10 passing with an INT and 3 sacks taken before he left.

Jake Haener Will Start Week 15

Saints interim HC Darren Rizzi informed the team today that QB Jake Haener will start this weekend's game vs. the Commanders, according to insider Nick Underhill. It'll be Haener's first career start. The 2023 fourth-round pick has completed just 49% of his 29 passes in mop-up duty across four different games this season. Try to avoid Haener and the entire Saints passing game in fantasy lineups this week. New Orleans is implied for only 18 points.

Derek Carr Has Fractured Left Hand

The Saints believe QB Derek Carr fractured his left hand in Sunday's win over the Giants, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. That's Carr's non-throwing hand, but the injury still figures to cost him time, if not the rest of the season. We'll look for a timeline for Carr's return. He was replaced by QB Jake Haener vs. New York. He's probably the favorite over QB Spencer Rattler to start against the Commanders next weekend. It's a situation to steer clear of in fantasy lineups.

Update: The team has confirmed a "significant" fracture of the left hand, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Carr's expected to miss "several weeks," which could obviously mean the end of his season with just four games left.

Derek Carr Expected Back Week 8 Or 9

Saints HC Dennis Allen said Friday that QB Derek Carr (oblique) has a chance to play in Week 8 and will "very likely" be back at least by Week 9. Carr is scheduled to resume throwing on Saturday. "This is a functionality question," Allen added. We'll track Carr's progress next week. It's unclear if QB Spencer Rattler or QB Jake Haener will start vs. the Chargers next week if Carr remains out. Rattler was knocked out of the Thursday night loss to the Broncos with a hip pointer but will likely be available for Week 8.
