The Chiefs downgraded TE Travis Kelce to out for today's game vs. the Chargers. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this morning that Kelce would play long enough to get the 16 yards he needs for 1,000, but HC Andy Reid evidently wised up since then and will hold Kelce out of this meaningless game. Noah Gray figures to operate as Kansas City's lead TE and is in play as a cheap DFS option.

The Chiefs are expected to play TE Travis Kelce long enough vs. the Chargers today to get him the 16 yards he needs for 1,000 total, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. It'd be Kelce's eighth straight 1,000-yard season. Expect Kelce to be pulled as soon as he gets those 16 yards, with the Chiefs having nothing to play for today. Kelce still isn't a recommended Week 18 fantasy play, although this news is a knock against TE Noah Gray's viability.

The Chiefs listed TE Travis Kelce as not practicing Monday on their estimated practice report. The team didn't actually work out the day after beating Minnesota. But it's no surprise that Kelce wouldn't have practice on his sprained ankle. We'll watch to confirm he's ready to play Thursday night against the Broncos. Given that Kelce returned to the Vikings game, he seems likely to play. But it's no lock. If Kelce is trending toward sitting out, TE Noah Gray could be a deeper TE option.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) is officially inactive for tonight's opener vs. the Lions. That leaves Noah Gray as Kansas City's top TE. Chiefs WRs -- particularly Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Kadarius Toney -- have more target potential with Kelce out.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (knee) will not play vs. the Lions tonight, according to insider Jordan Schultz. "I’m told the Chiefs’ All-Pro TE made a strong push to play after this morning’s workout, but the team did not want to risk anything with a full season of games ahead," Schultz adds. It sounds like Kelce has a good chance to make it back for Week 2, but we'll track his progress throughout next week. Noah Gray will step in as Kansas City's lead TE tonight and is an option for desperate Kelce owners.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce hyperextended a knee in practice Tuesday, HC Andy Reid told reporters. The injury leaves Kelce's status "uncertain" for Thursday night against the Lions, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. It'll help that it's the first game of the week, so fantasy managers will still have all other lineup options available before locking in that TE starter. We'll keep tracking the situation. Backup TE Noah Gray makes sense as a waiver-wire option this week for deeper leagues.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce (COVID) is officially inactive for today's game vs. the Steelers. He should be back for Week 17. Noah Gray and Blake Bell will handle TE duties for Kansas City today.

Chiefs TE Travis Kelce did not clear COVID protocols and is out for today's game vs. the Steelers, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Kelce should be back for Week 17. His absence leaves Noah Gray and Blake Bell as Kansas City's TEs. Gray is the preferred fantasy option but would be a desperation play. WR Tyreek Hill should dominate Chiefs targets today.

The Chiefs believe they need to make more plays in the short and intermediate passing games, according to NFL Network's James Palmer. Palmer notes that the team is looking to get the RBs more involved in the passing game (which we've heard multiple times this offseason) and adds that rookie TE Noah Gray could emerge as a factor with an increase in 2-TE sets. It's a situation to track this summer. There's certainly room for a 3rd viable fantasy option to emerge in Kansas City behind WR Tyreek Hill and TE Travis Kelce. We might also just see Hill and Kelce set new career highs in target share this year.
