Panthers HC Steve Wilks said Wednesday that QB P.J. Walker will start Sunday's game against the Buccaneers. Walker threw for just 60 yards before leading the Week 6 loss with a neck issue. It doesn't sound like the team is concerned about that injury. The Panthers also designated QB Sam Darnold to return from IR Wednesday, though we'll see if he's ready for a spot on the active roster this week. Jacob Eason served as Walker's backup in Week 6.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold (ankle) has been designated to return from IR and will return to practice this week. With QBs Baker Mayfield and P.J. Walker both banged up and playing horribly, we'll likely get Darnold back in our lives at some point this season. Of course, you can leave him on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.

Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey rushed 13 times for 69 yards and caught 7 of 8 targets for 89 more in Sunday's loss to the Rams. His 158 total yards constituted 77.8% of Carolina's total net yards for the game. No one else on the team collected more than 22 yards. Starting QB P.J. Walker managed just 60 passing yards for the game, with Jacob Eason coming on for 59 more (primarily thanks to a 49-yard completion to McCaffrey). We'll see about Carolina's QB situation for Week 7. D.J. Moore was the only other Panther to see more than 2 targets. He caught 3 of 7 for just 7 yards.

Panthers QB P.J. Walker was knocked out of Sunday's loss to the Rams with a 4th-quarter neck injury. QB Jacob Eason mopped up, completing 3 of 5 passes for 59 yards and a pick. We'll see if Walker is available for Week 7 -- and if Carolina sticks with him. Walker mustered just 60 yards on 10-of-16 passing today. QBs Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are unlikely to be ready for Week 7 with their ankle injuries.

Panthers QB Baker Mayfield (ankle) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Rams. QB P.J. Walker gets the start, with QB Jacob Eason backing him up.

The Panthers are listing QB Baker Mayfield (ankle) as doubtful for Sunday's game vs. the Rams. Interim HC Steve Wilks said Friday that Mayfield might be active as the backup but confirmed that QB P.J. Walker will get the start.

Panthers QB Baker Mayfield suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the 49ers, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "That means he’ll miss time, but how much will be determined by more tests and opinions," Rapoport adds. With QB Sam Darnold still out with his own ankle injury, Carolina will turn to QB P.J. Walker. The 27-year-old owns a 57% completion rate and 6.2 yards-per-attempt average on 128 NFL passes. So, as bad as Mayfield has been, don't expect Walker to be an upgrade.

Panthers QB Baker Mayfield picked up a left ankle injury in Sunday's loss to the 49ers. We saw him lipping at the end of the 1st half, but he was able to return for the 2nd. Mayfield was in a walking boot after the game and said he was headed for a Monday MRI. We should learn more tomorrow. With QB Sam Darnold still out with his ankle injury, QB P.J. Walker is Carolina's backup.

Panthers HC Matt Rhule said Monday that he'll continue to play both Cam Newton and P.J. Walker going forward. Newton was yanked for Walker a couple of times in Sunday's loss to the Falcons, and Rhule is making it sound like that was the plan and not performance related. Newton ended up playing 75% of Carolina's offensive snaps in Week 14. This plan, of course, puts a serious dent in Newton's fantasy value.

Panthers HC Matt Rhule said after Sunday's game against the Falcons that QB Cam Newton is still his starter. Newton was benched on 2 separate occasions in the loss. He threw an INT and lost a fumble, although he did run for 47 yards and a score. QB P.J. Walker wasn't any better, completing just 6 of 12 passes with 1 TD and 1 INT. Newton will be tough to trust in Week 15 fantasy lineups with the Panthers so willing to give him the hook.

Panthers HC Matt Rhule said Friday that QB Cam Newton "will take the first play" vs. Washington on Sunday. Cool. But Rhule also said QB P.J. Walker will "probably" play, as well. Not cool. We'll look for more details on Carolina's plan. But Newton would be tough to get behind even in Superflex leagues and DFS if he's not going to play 100% of the snaps.

Panthers QB Cam Newton is active for today's game vs. the Cardinals. QB P.J. Walker will start, but Newton could mix in for a few plays. It's obviously a situation to avoid in fantasy lineups.

Panthers HC Matt Rhule confirmed that QB P.J. Walker will start this weekend's game vs. the Cardinals, despite the addition of QB Cam Newton. Newton spent his first 9 NFL seasons in Carolina -- but none of those came with this current coaching staff. So he has a brand new offense to learn. We'll see if Newton is ready to take over come Week 11. The Panthers reportedly gave him a 1-year contract worth up to $10 million with $4.5 million guaranteed, so they're clearly expecting him to play sooner than later.

The Panthers brass is set to meet with free-agent QB Cam Newton on Thursday, according to The Charlotte Observer's Jonathan Alexander. Carolina is expected to be without QB Sam Darnold (shoulder) for the next 4-6 weeks. Newton would be an upgrade over QB P.J. Walker -- and an upgrade over the Darnold we've gotten the past month. We'll see where this goes.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold (shoulder) will be placed on IR and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, HC Matt Rhule said Wednesday. Darnold's injury is not believed to be season-ending, Rhule added, but he can be dropped in all 1-QB fantasy leagues. QB P.J. Walker is slated to start while Darnold is out, with QB Matt Barkley backing him up.

Tests have revealed a fractured scapula in the right shoulder of Panthers QB Sam Darnold, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Darnold is expected to miss "several weeks" with the injury, which Tom Pelissero reports is an "incomplete" fracture. P.J. Walker figures to step in, and Carolina also added Matt Barkley this week. A struggling Panthers offense isn't looking up.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold is considered "day to day" with a shoulder injury after a Monday MRI, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. HC Matt Rhule wouldn't commit to a Week 10 starting QB when asked Monday. “I’d have to see him on Wednesday and see. What does his health look like?," Rhule said of Darnold. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but neither Darnold nor QB P.J. Walker should be in your Week 10 fantasy plans.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold has cleared the concussion protocol. NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that he's still a game-time decision for Sunday against the Patriots, though, because of the shoulder injury. P.J. Walker would start if Darnold can't go. We're hoping you don't need either for your fantasy football lineups.

Update: ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that Darnold is "expected to start."

Updating a previous item, Panthers QB Sam Darnold (concussion, shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Patriots. QB P.J. Walker is in line to make his 2nd career start. He went 24-of-34 for 258 yards, 1 TD and 2 INTs in a Week 11 start vs. the Lions last year. Walker has gone 3-for-15 for 33 yards in relief of Darnold this season. As poorly as Darnold has played lately, Walker will likely be a downgrade for this offense.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold (concussion, shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Patriots. He was limited in practice all week. HC Matt Rhule said Friday that Darnold still has the clear the concussion protocol and that the shoulder injury is as big an issue as the concussion. We're still expecting QB P.J. Walker to get the start this weekend, but we'll keep you updated on the situation.
