Ryan Fitzpatrick Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

He's pretty much the last one, but Bills GM Buddy Nix has finally admitted that Ryan Fitzpatrick is not a franchise QB.  "Listen, we have said from day one, that we want to draft a good young quarterback" Nix said. "I don't want to leave here without a franchise guy for the future in place. I have not said that before but I'm saying it now because its fact."  So that begs the question: why did the team give Fitzpatrick a 7-year, $62 million deal last October?  Ftiz has responded by tossing 27 TDs and 26 INTs in 17 games since.   His starting job is safe for this season, but his long-term fantasy value is in the tank.

Buffalo's 1st-team offense passed on all 16 of its plays in the 1st quarter of Thursday night's preseason opener.  They went with an empty backfield on about half those snaps.  “We wanted to get in the no-huddle and spread the ball around a little bit,” QB Ryan Fitzpatrick said.  The results were mediocre.  Fitz went 6 of 14 for 61 yards and produced just 2 first downs.  Still, the game plan is encouraging for his fantasy stock.  The Bills will certainly be more balanced when the games start to count, but it's clear HC Chan Gailey wants to spread the field and chuck the rock.  That'll make Fitz at least a high-end QB2 with spot-start upside.  He's a bargain at his 12th-round ADP.

Bills WR David Nelson recently revealed that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick played through cracked ribs during the 2nd half of the 2011 season.  Fitz suffered the injury against the Redskins in Week 8.  He didn't miss any time but threw 16 INTs compared to just 10 TDs from Week 9 on.  Fitzpatrick averaged 18 fantasy points before the injury and just 15 after.  Still, it's tough to lay all the blame for his poor 2nd half on the injury considering he faded down the stretch in 2010 too.

For the 2nd-straight year, Bills HC Ryan Fitzpatrick has struggled in the 2nd half of the season.  After tossing 14 TDs and 7 INTs in his first 7 games, he's posted a 6:9 TD-to-INT ratio over his last 6.  But HC Chan Gailey backed Fitzpatrick in his Monday press conference. ”We’ve all seen him do it," Gailey said.  "We know he can do it. I think as soon as we continue to work on getting everybody on the same page I think Fitz would be fine. If that was my biggest problem I don’t think I’d have any problems.  He had a rough couple of weeks a few weeks back, then I thought he started to play better two weeks prior to this last week.  I have to help Ryan make sure we’re all on the same page and getting the receivers to do the things that he thinks they need to do and get it back to the way it was earlier in the season.”  It's an interesting situation because Buffalo can get out of the final 6 years of Fitzpatrick's contract by declining his $5 million option this offseason.  Unless he picks up his play over the season's final 3 weeks, we wouldn't be surprised if the Bills went in another direction.

Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick took it to the Jaguars on Saturday. He completed 11 of 12 passes for 165 yards and 2 TDs, including a 52-yard scoring strike to Steve Johnson. Fitzpatrick was a top-12 fantasy passer as a starter last year and carries terrific value as a fantasy backup with a 14.01 ADP.

For the first time in 7 NFL offseason, Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will enter training camp locked-in as his team's starter.  "People always say, 'I'm going to train and practice like I'm the starter,' but I promise there's a difference," Fitzpatrick said. "It gives you that much more incentive to work hard, you've got a lot of guys counting on you. You have to become a leader of the guys to get them together. It's a big change but it's something that I love."  Fitzpatrick has been receiving glowing praise all offseason, but we're still not convinced that he's anything more than a QB2 in fantasy.  He lacks an elite skill-set and will be working with a sub-par group of pass-catchers.

The Bills essentially committed to Ryan Fitzpatrick as their 2011 starting QB when they opted against adding a signal-caller in this past month's NFL Draft.  GM Buddy Nix recently confirmed that Fitzpatrick is their man.  "We like our QB. We think Fitz is a smart guy, he's a tough guy. He threw for 3,000 yards and had a really good year," Nix said. "Our players believe in him. He's a leader for us, so he's our QB."  Fitzpatrick had a few monster games in 2010, but he still finished just 16th among QBs in fantasy points.  He's a mediocre NFL starter and isn't more than a QB2 in fantasy.

Bills HC Chan Gailey says the team is "very committed" to QB Ryan Fitzpatrick as their starter in 2011.  "He’s done a lot of good things," Gailey continued. "He can improve. But we’ve got to stop the turnovers. But if we can do that I think we give ourselves a chance to be a successful offense.  He allowed other guys to flourish and that’s what he does. He puts the ball where it needs to be for people to make plays and that’s the one thing you like about the guy. He gives your team an opportunity to win."  Fitzpatrick had some big games in 2010, but he'll need help at WR and along the offensive line to be anything more than a QB2 next year.

11:43am EST 1/2/11

Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) is inactive for today's game against the Jets.  QB Brian Brohm will start in his place.  The Jets are resting CBs Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie, but Brohm still isn't a recommended fantasy option.

Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) was unable to practice all week and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets.  The team will wait until just prior to game-time before making a final decision on Fitzpatrick's status.  If he can't go, QB Brian Brohm will start for Buffalo.

Bills QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (knee) appears to be in danger of missing Sunday's game against the Jets after missing his 2nd straight practice Thursday.  "I hope he can make it," HC Chan Gailey said of Fitzpatrick. "I don't know if he will or not to be honest with you."  QB Brian Brohm would start for Buffalo if Fitzpatrick is out.  Check back Friday for an update.

Bills HC Chan Gailey admitted that he considered benching QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in favor of Brian Brohm during Sunday's loss to the Jets.  "We were thinking about it," Gailey said. "I went and told Fitz that if we didn’t get anything on that next to last drive that I was going to try to play Brian and get him some reps."  While Fitzpatrick is expected to start Week 5, he's definitely on a short leash.  Brohm will certainly get some playing time this season.

Bills HC Chan Gailey has announced that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start the team's Week 3 game against the Patriots.  QB Trent Edwards has been awful through 2 weeks.  "We're looking for a spark," HC Chan Gailey said, calling Edwards' benching permanent.  While we don't see Fitzpatrick as an upgrade, he can't be any worse.  Stay away from the entire Bills passing game -- including Lee Evans -- for the time being.

The Bills have fired their entire 2009 coaching staff, including interim HC Perry Fewell.  They'll start with a clean slate this offseason and are still hoping to lure HC Bill Cowher out of retirement.

The Buffalo Bills have hired former Dallas Cowboys HC Chan Gailey as their new HC. Gailey was an offensive coordinator in Kansas City this past year but was let go after 3 pre-season games. Being an offensive guy it will be interesting to see whether he can give the Bills a spark or not. The Bills have scheduled a press conference to introduced Gailey at 2 pm.

Bills HC Perry Fewell said in his Monday press conference that the team is hopeful that QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (ankle) will be healthy enough to start this Sunday's game against the Colts.  QB Brian Brohm was unimpressive this past week -- going 17 of 29 for 146 yards and 2 INTs -- but we can't figure out why the team wouldn't give him another look.  Fitzpatrick clearly isn't their long-term answer.  Avoid this entire passing game in Week 17.

According to buffalobills.com, Ryan Fitzpatrick will continue to serve as the Bills starting QB. HC Perry Fewell simply said, "Ryan is our starter." He's not a recommended play against the Patriots this week, but is he ever a recommended play?

According to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora, the Bills will start Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB on Sunday against the Jaguars.  While neither Fitzpatrick nor Trent Edwards have played well this year, the team would be smart to pick a guy and stick with him.  This endless cycle is killing any continuity the offense may have.

Bills new HC Perry Fewell officially named Ryan Fitzpatrick his starting QB for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.  Despite a good matchup, Fitzpatrick isn't a fantasy option.  But the move is good news for WR Lee Evans, who performed well with Fitzpatrick under center earlier this year.

The Bills signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. He'll back up Trent Edwards. J.P.Losman is a free agent but hasn't got a single nibble.
