He was able to play through this injury in the second half of last week's game, so we're tentatively expecting him to be out there vs. the Falcons on Sunday. Eagles slot CB Avonte Maddox will have surgery this week for the pectoral muscle he tore in Thursday night's win over the Vikings. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Maddox is out "indefinitely" and could miss the rest of the season. That's usually the case for pectoral tears. Philly -- which is also dealing with injuries to starting CB James Bradberry (concussion) and S Reed Blankenship (ribs) -- turned to undrafted rookie Mario Goodrich after Maddox left. The Eagles have allowed each of their first two opponents to exceed 350 yards passing and could remain a favorable passing matchup.
Lions RB David Montgomery told reporters Monday morning that he'll need "a couple weeks" for the quad he injured Sunday to heal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That means you'll need to plan for Montgomery to miss at least the next two games, and perhaps more beyond that. Jahmyr Gibbs obviously stands as the backfield's top fantasy play in Montgomery's absence. RB Craig Reynolds also got involved for 3 carries and 1 target after Montgomery left the OT loss to Seattle. Reynolds is worth a pickup in deeper fantasy football leagues, ahead of a Week 3 home date with the Falcons.
Lions TE Sam LaPorta caught five balls for the second straight game. After posting a 5-39-0 line in the opener, he went for 5-63-0 in the Week 2 loss to the Seahawks. The rookie has now totaled 11 targets for a 15.7% share through two games. That's enough to produce as at least a low-end TE1. Expect LaPorta to be ranked as such in Week 3, when LaPorta gets a plus matchup at home for Atlanta.
Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs was again used sparingly in the running game in the Week 2 overtime loss to the Seahawks, finishing with just seven carries. He was heavily involved in the passing game, though, leading Detroit with nine targets. He caught seven of them but unfortunately managed just 39 receiving yards. And he averaged just 2.4 yards per carry on the ground. We'd certainly expect better efficiency going forward. But it's clear that the Lions want to limit Gibb's rushing volume. Even after RB David Montgomery left this one with a thigh injury, RB Craig Reynolds started mixing in on early downs. It's a frustrating situation for fantasy owners. But if Gibbs is going to get anything close to this level of target volume, he can still pay off in fantasy.
Lions QB Jared Goff capitalized on a plus Week 2 spot at home for the Seahawks, chucking for 323 yards, 3 TDs, and 1 INT. And he did it despite WR Amon-Ra St. Brown coming in and out of the game in the fourth quarter with cramps. Goff's TDs went to WR Josh Reynolds twice and WR Kalif Raymond. Goff has now played two solid games to open the season. He remains a matchup-based fantasy play but draws a plus Week 3 matchup at home for the Falcons. Expect to find him in or near the top 12 of our Week 3 QB Rankings.
Lions RB David Montgomery has a thigh bruise, HC Dan Campbell said after the loss to Seattle. Montgomery is scheduled for more testing on Monday. If that's the extent of the injury, Montgomery doesn't figure to be out for long. We should get another update on his status tomorrow.

Vikings Edge Marcus Davenport is inactive for today's game against the Buccaneers. He suffered an ankle injury in Friday's practice and entered the day questionable. We'll see about his status for Week 2 and beyond. Davenport is merely a low-level IDP option until he proves otherwise.
Lions HC Dan Campbell said Friday that RB Jahmyr Gibbs' low snap count in the opener vs. the Chiefs was by design. "He'll begin to get more touches now, so that was just the beginning last night," Campbell added. Gibbs certainly looked like a guy deserving of more touches on Thursday night, averaging 6.0 yards per carry and 9.0 yards per catch. The rookie can stay in Week 2 fantasy lineups as a borderline RB2. We'll see how quickly his volume grows.
Lions TE Sam LaPorta didn't post a huge fantasy score in his debut in Kansas City on Thursday night, but it was an encouraging outing for his rest-of-season value. LaPorta ranked fourth on the Lions with five targets, a decent 14.3% share. And he caught all five of them for 39 yards. Per Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke, LaPorta's five receptions were the most from a rookie TE in Week 1 since T.J. Hockenson's six back in 2019. With plus matchups vs. the Seahawks and Falcons the next two weeks, expect to find LaPorta inside the top 15 TEs in our weekly rankings.
Lions WR Amon-Ra St. Brown did Amon-Ra St. Brown things in Thursday night's upset win over the Chiefs. He led Detroit with nine targets and six catches, racking up 71 yards and a TD. St. Brown drew 25.7% of the targets, which is actually slightly below his target share in healthy games last year. Perhaps TE Sam LaPorta's emergence keeps St. Brown from broaching a 30% target share this season, but he's still clearly the top dog in this passing game -- and a WR1 in fantasy lineups.
Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs worked clearly behind RB David Montgomery in Thursday night's opener vs. the Chiefs. The rookie tallied seven carries and two targets to Montgomery's 21 carries. That's the bad news. The good news? Gibbs looked like the most explosive player in the game, ripping off a 17-yard run and an 18-yard catch. “You can almost hear the acceleration,” NBC's Chris Collinsworth said. Montgomery's reliability is certainly valued by the Lions coaching staff, but we fully expect Gibbs' role to grow from here. Consider him a lower-end RB2 in the short term. But Gibbs could still be a difference-maker later this season. Consider sending a trade offer to the Gibbs owner in your league if he or she is disappointed by this first game.
Lions RB David Montgomery started Thursday night's opener vs. the Chiefs and operated as the lead back throughout. He played 79% of the offensive snaps and out-carried RB Jahmyr Gibbs 21 to 7, totaling 74 yards and a score. Montgomery wasn't targeted but led the backfield with a 56% route rate. There's no doubt that Gibbs is the more explosive back, but Montgomery's no-nonsense running style is clearly valued by HC Dan Campbell and the Lions. Expect Gibbs' role to grow over the course of the season. But, for now, Montgomery looks like a rock-solid RB2. He gets plus matchups the next two weeks at home for the Seahawks and Falcons.

Lions HC Dan Campbell said there's "a good chance" WR Jameson Williams (hamstring) will miss the final two preseason games. Detroit was obviously looking to get Williams reps this summer after a lost rookie season. He played 51 snaps in the preseason opener. Now it sounds like we won't see Williams again until after he serves his six-game suspension to open the season. It'll be at least a week or two beyond that before Williams will be a bankable fantasy play. He's only worth drafting in best-ball leagues or redraft leagues with deep benches.
