Cecil Lammey of 104.3 The Fan in Denver had this to say Wednesday after observing early Broncos practices: "I don't think this is a running back competition between [Melvin Gordon and Javonte Williams]. I think Gordon is the clear backup, and I believe he's competing with Boone for the No. 2 job." Lammey pointed out that Gordon was working in behind Williams, Boone and Damarea Crockett in drills on the 1st day of camp. It's still early for Gordon, who didn't re-sign until April, returning to find a new coaching staff. It's also unlikely that Gordon would return without at least a shot to fight Williams for touches. This will be 1 of the most interesting situations in all of fantasy football this summer. If Williams does operate as a clear lead back, there's upside from his Round 2 ADP. If Gordon commands anything close to last year's work share, though, he'll prove to be a tremendous value. And if Boone surprises ... then there will be plenty of angry fantasy players. We'll keep tracking this backfield closely.
The Ravens elevated RB Melvin Gordon from the practice squad. He'll slide in as Baltimore's No. 3 RB behind Gus Edwards and Justice Hill following Keaton Mitchell's season-ending knee injury. Gordon carried 13 times for 53 yards across a pair of appearances back in Weeks 3 and 4, when Hill and Mitchell were hurt. Gordon can be left on fantasy waiver wires.
Ravens RB Melvin Gordon has been elevated from the practice squad, an expected move following the season-ending injury to RB J.K. Dobbins. Gordon figures to work as the No. 3 RB behind Justice Hill and Gus Edwards. We'll see exactly how much work he steals from those guys.
The Ravens released RB Melvin Gordon. They'll carry RBs J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards, Justice Hill, and rookie Keaton Mitchell into Week 1.
The Ravens signed RB Melvin Gordon to a one-year deal worth "up to" $3.1 million, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. The guaranteed money on the deal is surely much lower. Gordon turned 30 in April and mustered just 3.5 yards per carry on 90 attempts for the Broncos last year. He ranked dead last among 48 qualifying RBs in NFL Next Gen Stats' Rush Yards Over Expected Per Attempt. Gordon will simply compete for a roster spot in Baltimore behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. He's not worth rostering in any fantasy football format.
The Chiefs are signing RB Melvin Gordon to their practice squad, according to multiple reports. We'll see whether the veteran -- waived recently by the Broncos -- can work his way into what's been a just-OK backfield this season.
