LB Battle for Sneaky IDP Value Looms in Vegas

The Raiders shed both starting LBs from last year, letting Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo both walk in free agency. Spillane dominated team tackles, while Deablo checked in just sixth, amid wavering playing time while he dealt with injuries. Vegas imported three lower-cost options to compete for the top two spots. Elandon Roberts signed first, with a one-year deal on March 13. Devin White followed at the end of March. But then the team added Germaine Pratt in June, after the Bengals released him.

        What They're Saying

White on his history with Raiders GM John Spytek, formerly the Tampa Bay director of player personnel: "We [have] a genuine relationship. [His kids] used to wear my jersey and everything."

LBs coach John Glenn on White: "He can handle multiple things. We're just delighted to have him around here."

Those White quotes come from an ESPN article about the Raiders hoping for White to rebound from his falling out in Tampa Bay.

White's history with Spytek certainly doesn't hurt. But let's look at the money.

        • Pratt carries a $4.7 million cap hit.
        • Roberts gets $3.01 million on his one-year deal.
        • White trails at $1.03 million.

Those numbers don't necessarily sort the roles, but they point to White facing a challenge to winning significant playing time.

White and Roberts ran as the starters in early workouts, but the Pratt signing sure seems to point to him claiming a starting role.

We'll watch all three in camp to see how this sorts out. There's definite IDP upside to at least one of the three, and maybe two.
