        Ladd McConkey Remains a Problem

We knew the matchup wasn't good for WR Ladd McConkey, with the Chargers facing the Texans in Week 17. But McConkey drew a season-low two targets despite his team quickly falling behind. He still led the team at 39 routes -- five ahead of his nearest teammate -- but four others drew more targets.

        2025 Fantasy Football Impact

It was the sixth straight game of 43 yards or less for McConkey. Over that span, he has posted these meager per-game averages:

        • 4.3 targets
        • 2.5 receptions
        • 26.3 yards
        • 0.3 TDs

McConkey's yards per reception (10.5) and catch rate (57.7%) have also suffered over that span.

He's also down to a 17% target share over the past six games vs. 23% through Week 10.

That all sets McConkey up poorly for a season-ending matchup with the Broncos. It also makes him an iffy bet for playoff leagues, especially in a pass offense that has struggled over the second half (outside of the Week 16 Dallas matchup).

        Dynasty Impact

The full (fantasy) season finds McConkey ranking second behind Keenan Allen in target share -- 21% to 22% -- with Quentin Johnston (18%) close behind.

That's a rough Year 2 step for the guy who emerged as the team target leader in his rookie campaign. McConkey still leads the team in receiving yards for the season but ranks second in targets, receptions, and TD catches.

He's also down from 5.1 catches and 71.8 yards per game last season to 4.1 and 49.3 this year.

The downturn's not a killer for McConkey's long-term outlook, of course, but it sure points to him being overrated ahead of this season.

        Should You Make a Move?

What to do with this -- if anything -- will depend on a few factors.

If you have McConkey, now's not a great time to look into trading him. If the Chargers move on from Allen and add nothing, then McConkey would enter 2026 as the team's best target bet once again. And a healthier, enhanced offensive line could boost the passing rate.

Plus, you're probably not getting a great return.

On the other hand, if the McConkey manager in your league is especially down on him, there might be a buy opportunity. If you can get him for a Round 2 rookie pick, that'd be a win.
