Jets GM Darren Mougey made it clear from the Combine on Tuesday that impending free-agent RB Breece Hall isn't leaving town. The team is prepared to use the franchise or transition tag if it doesn't reach a long-term agreement with Hall ahead of the March 3 deadline. Either tag would keep Hall with the Jets for the 2026 season.
What They're Saying
Mougey: "Ideally, we'd find a way to get a deal done and keep Breece around. I've said that for the past year since I got here. Breece is a good player, and we want to find a way to keep him around. We've been going through that process and are still doing so. We have a week to find out, if we can't get to an agreement, which way we'll go with the tag."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
The Jets had opportunities to trade Hall near last year's deadline but hung on to him, so it's not a big surprise that they won't let him reach the open market.
Heading elsewhere very likely would have landed Hall in a better offense. But he'll be a strong bet for volume again in 2026, especially considering what the Jets will be paying him ($14.5 million on the franchise tag or $11.5 million on the transition tag).
Hall averaged 15.2 carries and 4.0 targets per game last season, ranking 25th among RBs in expected PPR points per game. Despite playing on a bad Jets offense, Hall turned that volume into a RB21 finish in PPR points per game.
His ceiling will be capped unless the Jets offense takes a big leap this year. (We don't expect it to.) But Hall looks like a relatively safe lower-end RB2 in 2026 fantasy drafts.
