Colts GM Chris Ballard revealed Monday that WR Alec Pierce recently had ankle surgery. Pierce is expected to need about three months to recover and "should be back sometime during training camp," according to James Boyd of The Athletic.
What They're Saying
Ballard, via Boyd: "For a lot of the season, he kept dealing with some pain in his ankle. And so after the season, we talked about, 'Is it good enough? Can we get through it again another year?' And then right before we signed him and after we signed him, I started asking him questions, and he said, ‘I can play through this again.’ ... We don't expect any long-term implications here."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
The fact that Indy gave Pierce the big contract amid discussions about his ankle align with Ballard's words that they're not worried over the long term.
Of course, there's no certainty his timeline has the wideout back to full strength ahead of the regular season.
We'll have to watch Pierce through his return to play and assess the chances that he's affected during the season.
In the meantime, the surgery's likely to knock his ADP down from an already-palatable low-WR3 price. Assuming that occurs, Pierce will remain worth a look in your drafts across formats.
Whether Pierce maintains his spot among our 2026 fantasy football breakouts will depend on his return.
