49ers TE George Kittle believes he's "on track" to play in the season opener after tearing his right Achilles in January. He's been working off to the side of OTAs, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner, doing single-leg hops and 20-to-30-yard jogs.
What They're Saying
Kittle: "When I had the surgery and [Dr. Neal] ElAttrache told me, he said, 'Hey, I think if you do everything the right way, you have a chance [to play Week 1].' It definitely ignites something and makes you push for it. We're on track. We're ahead of schedule."
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Kittle has been optimistic about his rehab all offseason. 49ers insiders have been less so. NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco reported in May that Kittle could open the season on the PUP list, which would cost him the first four games.
We probably won't have a great idea of his status until August. Kittle's odds of playing Week 1 are complicated by the fact that the 49ers open in Australia against the Rams. That game is on September 11, but the team is flying on September 2.
Rankings Movement
We currently have Kittle projected to miss two games and then be a bit limited for another four games. That still lands him eighth among TEs in our PPR rankings.
