After initially not receiving a timetable for Jordyn Tyson’s return from a hamstring injury, it’s now reported that he’s expected to miss time “... deep into September,” per Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill. While the Saints haven’t officially placed him on injured reserve, Underhill says it’s possible as the team continues to evaluate his injury.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact: September Starts Without Him
Tyson entered the league with health concerns after playing in just 62% of Arizona State’s games and missing 15 over his three years there.
There’s a reason he was drafted inside the top 10 though, his upside is certainly there. Tyson was the only wide receiver in college football to post at least 20 fantasy points per game (PPG) and 30% target share each of the past two seasons. He also joins Makai Lemon as the only collegiate wide receivers with at least 20 PPG in a power conference last season.
There was, and still is, a case to be made that he should have the highest ADP of any rookie wide receiver. But the downside of that case does include the risk of injury, which we’re seeing in full effect.
Other Winners & Losers: Olave Gets the Biggest Bump
If the Saints place Tyson on injured reserve, he’d be guaranteed to miss the first four games, which should funnel a slightly bigger share of the targets to Chris Olave.
Olave’s 28.0% target share last season ranked ninth among wide receivers, and he already showed at Ohio State that he can handle even more volume with a 30% share.
Tyson’s missed time also gives Juwan Johnson and Devaughn Vele a slight boost as they compete for second fiddle.
We’re moving Olave into our top 12 WRs for the season, with Vele and Johnson bumped to WR73 and TE17, respectively.
