Saints TE Adam Trautman isn't listed on the Week 1 injury report. He suffered a foot injury in the 2nd preseason game but is ready for this weekend's regular-season opener vs. the Packers. Trautman is a fine bench stash but shouldn't be in Week 1 fantasy lineups.

The "initial belief" is that Saints TE Adam Trautman will be out 1-3 weeks with his foot injury, according to insider Nick Underhill. Trautman is visiting a foot specialist on Thursday to get another opinion. We'll look for further updates. But, for now, it looks like Trautman has a chance to be ready for Week 1 and will miss a couple of games at worst.

Saints TE Adam Trautman avoided a "major injury" to his foot or ankle, according to insider Nick Underhill. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds that the Saints are still seeking additional medical opinions on Trautman's situation. So he's not out of the woods yet, but it's good news so far. We'll continue to keep you updated.

Saints TE Adam Trautman will get an MRI on the foot he injured in Monday night's preseason game vs. the Jaguars, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. X-rays on the foot came back clean. We'll continue to keep you updated on Trautman's status, but we'd avoid him in fantasy drafts until we know more.

Saints TE Adam Trautman went to the locker room on a cart during Monday night's preseason game. He had been getting checked for a foot or ankle injury in the sideline tent before riding to the locker room. We'll keep an eye on this situation. According to Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke, TE Nick Vannett saw his playing time increase after Trautman's departure while TE Juwan Johnson's role appeared unchanged.

Juwan Johnson "seems headed for a Jared Cook-type of role" for the Saints, The Athletic's Katherine Terrell writes. Johnson went undrafted last year after playing WR in college (3 seasons at Penn State, 1 at Oregon). He went catch-less last year and has now made the switch to TE at 6'4, 230 pounds. Johnson played 4 of 20 snaps with the 1st-team offense in the preseason opener and didn't see a target. We're not ready to consider him a fantasy option yet. But any type of role Johnson plays in the passing game would be bad news for TE Adam Trautman.

Saints TE Adam Trautman underwent a pair of operations a month before training camp started, per beat writer Nick Underhill. The 2nd-year TE had his appendix removed and a cyst removed in his lower back. Beat writer Mike Triplett tweeted Friday that Trautman is “up to speed now.” The Saints are counting on him to take a step forward, especially with Michael Thomas set to miss regular season games. Trautman remains an enticing draft day target.

The Saints released TEs Jared Cook and Josh Hill. The Cook move was just a formality, with his contract set to expire later this month anyway. He gets a head start now on finding his next employer. The soon-to-be 34-year-old remained effective last season, posting a 37-504-7 line on 60 targets. Hill saw just 10 targets last year, so his departure doesn't move the needle. But the moves in tandem open the door for 2020 3rd-rounder Adam Trautman to take over as New Orleans' starter. He's a 2021 breakout candidate.

According to Jeff Duncan of The Athletic, the Saints are “extremely high” on 2nd-year TE Adam Trautman. Duncan went so far as to name Trautman as his top “breakout candidate” for next season. As a rookie, the Dayton product saw just 16 targets behind Jared Cook. But he caught 15 of them for 171 yards (11.4 YPC) and 1 score. Duncan fully expects the cash-strapped Saints to move on from the high-priced Cook, who’s coming off a down season. Trautman, meanwhile, makes sense as a fringe TE2 or TE3 target in early FFPC drafts.

Saints TE Jared Cook (groin) is active for tonight's game against the Chargers. He was limited in practice all week after missing Week 4, so Cook is a risk/reward fantasy play. TE Adam Trautman is a healthy scratch tonight.

Saints TE Jared Cook (groin) is out for Sunday's game against the Lions. He missed practice all week and might be looking at a multi-game absence. Rookie TE Adam Trautman stepped in for Cook last week but would be a desperation Week 4 fantasy play.

Saints TE Jared Cook was knocked out of Sunday night's game vs. the Packers with an ankle injury. We'll look for an update on the severity. Rookie TE Adam Trautman played a season-high 52% of the offensive snaps with Cook sidelined, hauling in both of his targets for 17 yards.

The Saints selected Dayton TE Adam Trautman in the 3rd round of the 2020 NFL Draft. Trautman improved his production all 4 years on campus, topping out with a 70-916-14 line in 2019. That obviously came against relatively weak competition. But Trautman posted big market shares, tied for 3rd in yards per route run among 18 of this year’s top WR prospects and led that group in Pro Football Focus’ receiving grades. He’s also a capable blocker and tested as a 67th percentile athlete at the Combine. We weren’t overly impressed by his tape, but Trautman really checks all the analytical boxes. He’ll sit behind Jared Cook this season but has some longer-term upside with HC Sean Payton in New Orleans.
