Bengals QB Andy Dalton needs to do a better job of getting rid of the football in 2013. He was sacked 46 times last year, 3rd most in the league. But according to Pro Football Focus, he was pressured the 4th-fewest times. 17 of Dalton's takedowns were pegged as coverage sacks. It's something the 3rd-year pro will have to fix if he wants to climb the ranks this season. "It’s better than it was and we just have to get used to the timing of live guys running,” said QB coach Ken Zampese. “With the OTAs we get more chances to keep working on it.” If Dalton can be more competent under duress, he's got a great chance to build on his 2012 numbers, when he ranked 7th in TDs and 16th in yards. We like him as a high-end QB2 going into the summer.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton's NFL career is off to a good start.  He's completed 60.2% of his passes with 47 TDs vs. 29 INTs over his first 2 seasons.  But OC Jay Gruden is looking for more from Dalton moving forward.  "There’s not one part of his game that he doesn’t need to improve," Gruden said. "... Your arm strength, your strength, your footwork, basically your fundamentals of football. And obviously he needs to get better with his deep ball accuracy and touch, and there’s not really one part of his game that he can’t really improve upon. He has to get better in every phase — scramble ability, foot quickness, accuracy, deep accuracy, short, anticipation. He’s got a long way to go... We feel like he has not come close to his potential. That’s our job to get it out of him. And he knows he’s gotta play better, and we all do.”  Dalton finished 16th in fantasy scoring among QBs back in 2011.  He improved to 12th this past year.  There's room for continued growth, especially with WR A.J. Green in his huddle.

Bengals HC Marvin Lewis says he won't rest his starters in Week 17, despite being locked into the #6 seed.  Lewis rested his starters 2 previous times, and Cincy was eliminated in its first playoff game on both occasions.  "How'd that turn out for us?" Lewis asked rhetorically.  "I think it's important for our team to play well. We are going to play to win the football game. [We're playing for] improvement."  Andy Dalton, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, A.J. Green, and Jermaine Gresham will be safe to use in fantasy this weekend.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton left Thursday night's preseason game with a minor arm injury.  He never even went into the locker room and confirmed afterwards that the injury isn't serious.  "I just took a hit on the arm, and my hand got feeling a little numb, sort of like getting hit on your funny bone," Dalton explained. "It's fine now."  He'll be ready for Week 1 but is just a low-end fantasy backup.  The 2nd-year signal-caller struggled this preseason, completing just 45% of his passes for 5.6 yards per attempt.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton has packed on some muscle this offseason in an effort to improve his arm strength.  Beat writer Geoff Hobson has noticed "more zip" on Dalton's ball in OTAs.  QBs coach Ken Zampese sees improvement too.  "He's got a better base to throw from now than he did during the season, which gives you the distance and the arc," Zampese said.  "He's got more control of himself when he gets back there with the fifth step. It's more balanced."  There were questions about Dalton's arm strength coming into the league last year, but it didn't appear to be an issue to us.  The increased velocity can only help though.  It's also good news for WR A.J. Green, who has the deep speed to take advantage.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton (illness) put in a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable for this weekend's game against the Bengals.  He'll be at or near 100%, but the rookie is a weak fantasy option vs. a Houston defense that finished 4th in fantasy points allowed to QBs.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton (illness) returned to practice on Thursday.  He was actually hospitalized yesterday with what he called a "24-hour bug" but remains on track to start this weekend's game against the Texans.  "I'm back and ready to go," Dalton said.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton missed Wednesday's practice with an illness.  He's not believed to be in any danger of missing this weekend's game, but the missed preparation time won't help against a tough Texans defense.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton confirmed that the hip injury he suffered against the Steelers on Sunday isn't serious.  The rookie was pulled in the 4th quarter, but that had more to do with the 35-7 score than the injury.  Dalton was reportedly walking around the locker room afterwards without a limp.  He should be fine for this coming weekend's game against the Texans.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton suffered an apparent hip injury in the 2nd half of Sunday's game agains the Steelers.  He was walking around the sidelines but has been pulled in favor of QB Bruce Gradkowski.  Cincy is down 35-7, so they could just be playing it safe with their rookie signal-caller.  We should get an update on Dalton's status tonight.

It looks like wind will play a factor in a few northeast games today.  The forecast calls for 30+ MPH wind gusts for the Lions-Bears game, and 40+ MPH gusts in Rams-Browns and Steelers-Bengals.  It's a concern for QBs like Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy, and Andy Dalton, who don't have strong arms.  Those guys weren't really fantasy options anyways though.  We'd feel fine sticking with QBs Matt Stafford, Jay Cutler, and Ben Roethlisberger.

As expected, Bengals QB Andy Dalton (wrist) will start today's game against the Broncos.  He shouldn't be in fantasy lineups though.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton (wrist) put in another full practice on Friday and will start Sunday's game against the Broncos.  The rookie was solid in his NFL debut, completing 10 of 15 passes for 81 yards and a score before going down.  He's still far from being a fantasy option though.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton (wrist) put in a full practice Thursday.  Beat writer Joe Reedy observed the first 30 minutes of the workout and says that Dalton "appeared to not have any problems throwing."  It sounds like he's on track to start Sunday's game against the Broncos.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton (wrist) was able to put in a limited practice on Wednesday, but HC Marvin Lewis admitted that it's still to early to make a call on his Week 2 availability.  There's a good chance that QB Bruce Gradkowski gets the start against Denver, but neither guy should be in your fantasy lineup.

10:41pm EDT 9/13/11

Test results on Bengals QB Andy Dalton's injured wrist revealed no significant damage.  But he may not be able to practice early this week.  And according to NFL.com's Jason La Canfora, that has Dalton's Week 2 status in doubt.  If he can't go, QB Bruce Gradkowski would draw the start against the Broncos.  Neither guy should be anywhere near your starting lineup.  And the move from Dalton to Gradkowski wouldn't significantly impact any of Cincinnati's other fantasy options.

X-rays on Bengals QB Andy Dalton's injured wrist came back negative.  HC Marvin Lewis said in his post-game press conference that Dalton should be ready for Week 2.  The rookie completed 10 of 15 balls for 81 yards and a score before leaving the game.  Not an awe-inspiring performance, but enough to ensure that he'll keep the starting job over Bruce Gradkowski.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton suffered a hand injury near the end of the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Browns.  He went for x-rays, and we'll update his status as soon as we learn more.  QB Bruce Gradkowski has taken over.

Bengals QB Andy Dalton had his best game of the preseason last night against the Panthers. He completed 11 of 17 balls for 130 yards and a score. The TD came on a beautifully-thrown deep ball to WR A.J. Green for 40 yards. Dalton played with the starters for the entire 1st half, and the performance was likely enough to secure his spot in the starting lineup. That may not be a good thing for Green and fellow WR Jerome Simpson though. Dalton has been dinking-and-dunking all preseason, averaging just 5.6 yards per attempt. Bad news for big-play guys like Green and Simpson. You're best off avoiding this passing game unless you're getting incredible value.
