Bengals rookie QB Andy Dalton looked lost in Sunday night's game against the Jets.  He completed just 8 of 19 passes for 86 yards with 0 TDs and 2 INTs.  His accuracy and decision-making were equally poor.  Through 2 preseason games, Dalton has completed just 56% of his attempts and sports a 0:3 TD-to-INT ratio.  He's clearly not ready to be a starting QB at the NFL level.  Unfortunately, QB Bruce Gradkowski hasn't been any better than Dalton the past 2 weeks.  This Bengals offense could be the worst in the league this season.

Beat writer Geoff Hobson confirms that the Bengals' starting QB spot is "Andy Dalton's to lose."  This is what we've been hearing since camp opened about a week ago.  While we're not expecting him to post a Sam-Bradford-esque rookie campaign, Dalton does have the accuracy and football IQ to at least not embarrass himself.  We just nudged him up our QB rankings.  It's looking like Bruce Gradkowski won't see the field this year unless Dalton really tanks.

Bengals OC Jay Gruden revealed that rookie QB Andy Dalton will get most of the snaps throughout training camp.  The easy explanation is that the rookie needs the additional reps to learn the offense and get acquainted with his WRs.  But it's also a pretty good sign that the Bengals are hoping Dalton beats out QB Bruce Gradkowski for the starting job.  We dubbed Dalton the favorite in today's Training Camp Battles article, although he'll only be a low-end QB2 if he gets the nod.

The Bengals have signed rookie QB Andy Dalton to a 4-year, $5.2 million deal.  He's slated to compete with QB Bruce Gradkowski for the team's starting job.  Dalton has the clear talent edge, but Gradkowski is familiar with OC Jay Gruden's offense.  This one could go either way, although we'd expect Dalton to finish the season with more starts.

Beat writer Geoff Hobson believes the transaction freeze initiated by the lockout will force the Bengals to go with QB Andy Dalton as their Week 1 starter.  Hobson says that the team may bring in a low-end free-agent like Tarvaris Jackson, Trent Edwards, or Bruce Gradkowski, but that "Dalton would figure to get the bulk of the now precious camp snaps."  With a high football IQ and good accuracy, Dalton should do fine as a rookie starter.  But "fine" doesn't make him a viable fantasy option.

The Bengals selected TCU QB Andy Dalton with the 35th overall pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. New OC Jay Gruden loves this guy and thinks he's a perfect fit in his West Coast Offense. We agree. Dalton lacks ideal arm strength, but he's ultra-accurate and has a high football IQ. If QB Carson Palmer follows through on his threat to sit out the season if he's not traded, Dalton will be Cincinnati's Week 1 starter. He and WR A.J. Green are the future for the Bengals.
