Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu put in a limited practice Wednesday after missing Sunday's game with a shoulder injury. The Arizona Republic reports that it's not yet clear whether we can expect Mathieu to play in Week 11. IDP owners should look elsewhere even if he returns. LB Deone Bucannon missed Wednesday's workout with an ankle issue. We'll see about his status throughout the week. Bucannon didn't miss any snaps in the win over the Niners.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians on Wednesday revealed the unsurprising plan for covering Vikings WR Stefon Diggs on Sunday. "Put Patrick Peterson on him and hope that works," he said, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press. It's not surprising that Arizona would seek to shadow the opponent's clear top (only?) receiving threat with its top corner. But Diggs runs more than half of his routes from the slot, according to ESPN. We'll see if Peterson -- normally an outside corner -- has any trouble guarding Diggs inside, but we're lowering the ceiling on Diggs' fantasy outlook for Week 11.

Cardinals HC Bruce Arians said Monday that DB Tyrann Mathieu will get cleared to return this week from the shoulder injury that kept him out of Sunday's win over the Niners, according to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss. “We’ll just see how he is,” Arians said. “His strength’s back. It’s good. He’ll be cleared to go. I just want to see him practice and see how he looks.” Mathieu was given a 3-6 week timeline after suffering a shoulder subluxation in the Week 8 loss at Carolina, so returning for the Week 11 trip to Minnesota would come at the earliest end of that. We'll see if Mathieu gets right back into game action and whether Arizona limits his role in his return. His often-sluggish fantasy production this season makes it worth waiting to see him in action before using Mathieu in your IDP lineups.

So much for the hope that he wouldn't miss any time. Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu is expected to miss 3-6 weeks with the shoulder injury that knocked him out of Sunday's game at Carolina, according to the team website. With a bye this week, that figures to cost Mathieu at least the games against San Francisco and Minnesota. We'll see beyond that.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder (meaning it popped out of socket) in Sunday's loss to Carolina. The Week 9 bye, however, might keep Mathieu from missing any further game time. We'll check in on him heading into Week 10.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu left in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's loss to the Panthers after suffering a left shoulder injury. We'll see about his status this week.

The Cardinals on Tuesday placed S Tyvon Branch on IR with the same groin injury that knocked RB Chris Johnson out. One of those 2 could come off after 8 games, of course, as the "designated to return" player. HC Bruce Arians told the team website that the recovery timelines of the 2 will help to decide which -- if either -- gains the designation. IDP owners should go ahead and dump Branch in the meantime. Tyrann Mathieu will regain his slot cover duties this week to take over part of what Branch was doing. D.J. Swearinger figures to see more time as well, but Mathieu and Tony Jefferson are the fantasy factors.

It appears the Cardinals are ready to let DB Tyrann Mathieu jump back into the starting lineup Sunday night against the Patriots. Mathieu didn't even appear on Wednesday's injury report despite spending nearly all of the offseason and camp on the sideline. "I expect him to be out there full speed, ready to roll (against the Patriots)," coach Bruce Arians told the team website last week. Arians reiterated that stance over the weekend, telling azcardinals.com's Darren Urban that he expects Mathieu to be available for "every single play." We'll see just how strong Mathieu looks in his 1st action since last December's ACL tear, but it looks like less of a risk to use him in your IDP lineup than we'd have guessed.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu practiced Sunday for the 1st time since tearing his right ACL in December. According to ESPN's Josh Weinfuss, HC Bruce Arians had planned to have Mahtieu, CB Justin Bethel and DE Frostee Rucker participate only in positional drills. But Mathieu said he decided to push it by also taking part in 7-on-7s and 11-on-11s. Mathieu said he was "real surprised" with what he was able to do. "I didn't feel any pain. I didn't really get tight at all," Mathieu said. "I was surprised with where I was at, but I was also pleased with what I've been doing." Mathieu said he thinks he can be ready for Week 1. We'll see how things go over the next couple of weeks. Mathieu's return gets in the way of S Tony Jefferson's fill-in work, though Mathieu's split duty between FS and slot CB could leave room for Jefferson to be an early fantasy option as well.

The Cardinals on Tuesday activated DB Tyrann Mathieu from the PUP, along with CB Justin Bethel and DL Frostee Rucker. Does that mean they're ready to practice and on track for the regular-season opener? “I wouldn’t say that,” HC Bruce Arians told the team website. “I’d just say that they’re on target to get mental reps. They look good. Ty looks real good right now. Justin still favors (his foot) a little bit, but he’s fine. Frostee’s got to get into better shape.” We'll keep an eye on Mathieu, in particular. The last time he returned from an ACL tear (2014) found him missing 3 full games, playing half the defensive snaps and delivering a fraction of the stats he tallied in his other 2 pro seasons. Bethel was in line to start opposite CB Patrick Peterson, which has proved to be a high-volume spot. But he'll need to beat out rookie Brandon Williams at this point. Rucker's not an IDP option even when healthy. The Arizona D should be fine for fantasy purposes regardless of the status of these 3, though a healthy Mathieu certainly elevates the unit.

The Cardinals released their initial depth chart Monday, which lists Tyrann Mathieu as the FS starter despite his continued PUP status. Tony Jefferson, who has been working in his place, sits 2nd on the depth chart. D.J. Swearinger, meanwhile, has fought off competition so far to hold the SS role to this point. Swearinger has flashed some IDP intrigue in the past but failed to stick in lineups or deliver consistent fantasy production. He carries some mild upside into the season but needs to prove he's worth getting excited about. Arizona safeties have proved just OK in fantasy in recent seasons.

The Cardinals picked DL Robert Nkemdiche 29th overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. Jon Gruden thinks he's going to the "promised land," and it certainly looks like a nice landing spot. Arizona has a lot going for it, including a HC who has proved popular with players over the past few years. Nkemdiche carries IDP upside.

The Patriots on Tuesday traded DE Chandler Jones to the Cardinals for G Jonathan Cooper and a 2nd-round draft pick. Jones figures to play a 3-4 OLB spot for the Cardinals, which will hurt his IDP value wherever his designation changes. New England can start Jabaal Sheard and Rob Ninkovich on the edges and drafted DEs Geneo Grissom (3rd round) and Trey Flowers (4th) last year. The Pats also had free agent Chris Long in for a visit Monday. Adding Jones can only help an Arizona D that was already good for fantasy with a poor pass rush last season.

According to multiple reports, Cardinals S Tyrann Mathieu tore his right ACL late in Sunday night's win over the Eagles. That obviously ends his season and puts him in question for the summer and regular-season start of 2016. Mathieu previously tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee, so this injury seems less severe. The fact that it's his other knee also increases the chance for a full recovery. Mathieu should remain on dynasty IDP rosters at this point. We'll track his progress heading into next year. S Tony Jefferson figures to see more playing time this year, though the Cardinals likely don't have a single player who can step into Mathieu's hybrid CB-S role.

Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu left in the 4th quarter of Sunday night's game at Philly after appearing to twist his left ankle following an INT. Mathieu managed to walk off under his own power and head to the locker room without help. We'll keep an eye on his status. He has ranked among the top fantasy performers at DB this season.

Cardinals S Tony Jefferson (hamstring) is questionable for Thursday night's game against the Vikings. He's a low-level IDP candidate anyway in a safety rotation. Don't bother with him unless you really need to.
