Giants RB Corey Clement has outplayed RB Devontae Booker in camp so far, according to insider Zack Rosenblatt. "Booker is still the top backup," Rosenblatt concedes. "But he’s not necessarily performing like it." The Giants gave Booker a 2-year, $5.5 million deal in free agency vs. Clement's 1-year deal worth a little less than a million. So the team was likely banking on Booker winning the backup job behind RB Saquon Barkley. But that contract isn't big enough to guarantee him anything. We'll continue to monitor this situation, but there's no strong handcuff to Barkley right now.

The Giants announced Thursday that RB Saquon Barkley is opening camp on the active/PUP list. That means the team can activate him at any point. Barkley would need to remain on the list all the way until the final cutdown to 53 players to be eligible for the regular-season PUP. We'll obviously track his participation and status throughout camp. We're assuming at this point Barkley will be active for the start of the season.

The Giants spent a 6th-round pick on Arizona RB Gary Brightwell in the 2021 NFL Draft. Brightwell amassed just 245 carries across 4 years with the Wildcats, topping out at 91 rushing attempts as a redshirt freshman in 2018. Brightwell did average 17.6 rushes per game over 5 contests in 2020 but managed just 4.4 yards per rush and 4.1 yards per catch across his 13 receptions. Brightwell followed that with lackluster testing, including a 4.62-second 40. He could fight for a backup job right away in a weak depth chart behind Saquon Barkley, but there's not a lot to get excited about here.

RB Devontae Booker has inked a 2-year, $6 million deal with the Giants, per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. Booker is coming off a solid season in Vegas that saw him average 4.5 yards per carry and haul in 17 of 21 targets. He's a reliable pass-catcher but is stretched as anything more than a change-of-pace back. That's exactly what he'll be in New York as long as Saquon Barkley makes a successful return from last year's torn ACL.

The Raiders signed RB Devontae Booker. The former Bronco has mustered just 3.8 yards per carry over 4 NFL seasons but has averaged 8.3 yards per catch on 105 grabs. He'll compete for a pass-catching role in Las Vegas. Booker is far from a lock to make the final roster, but his addition is another sign that the Raiders aren't ready to hand RB Josh Jacobs a 3-down, workhorse role. The team has also re-signed RB Jalen Richard and drafted RB Lynn Bowden this offseason.

Broncos RB Theo Riddick (shoulder) has been placed on IR. That knocks him out for at least the first 8 games. Riddick shouldn't be part of your redraft plans. Devontae Booker will hang around as Denver's #3 RB for at least the 1st half of the season.

The Broncos have signed RB Theo Riddick, who was cut by the Lions 5 days ago. Riddick offers very little as a runner but leads all RBs with 247 catches over the past 4 seasons. In Denver, he figures to battle RB Devontae Booker for a pass-catching role. Riddick has received a better pass-catching grade from Pro Football Focus in each of the past 3 seasons. Consider him the early favorite for the gig -- but Riddick isn't worth drafting in fantasy leagues right now.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay will miss Week 17 because of the wrist injury that knocked him out of Monday night's loss to the Raiders. Lindsay will have further testing on the wrist. The worry is a potential scaphoid fracture and ligament damage. We'll see about the extent, but the issue is at least serious enough that he'll also miss the Pro Bowl. It shouldn't impact his 2019, but we'll keep an eye on the situation. For Week 17, Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker should see more work against the Chargers.

Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay left Monday night's game against the Raiders early with a hand injury and has been ruled out. We'll see whether the issue costs him further time.

Broncos RB Royce Freeman (ankle) is inactive for today’s game against the Texans. That again leaves the backfield to Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker. With Freeman out last week, Lindsay carried 18 times and caught all 3 of his targets while Booker handled 9 carries and 4 targets.

Broncos RB Royce Freeman (ankle) is not expected to play against Houston today, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Freeman is officially questionable, and HC Vance Joseph told the team website Friday that he's "getting better fast." But the team will reportedly let him rest the ankle through the Week 10 bye. Freeman's absence helps the touch outlooks for Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker, each of whom posted nice fantasy numbers (in a much better matchup) last week against the Chiefs.

Broncos RB Royce Freeman (ankle) is out for this weekend's game against the Chiefs. He's averaged 10.1 carries per game this season, so it's a significant loss. Look for RB Phillip Lindsay to soak up most of that action, making him a borderline RB1 in a plus matchup vs. a Kansas City defense allowing 5.1 yards per carry. RB Devontae Booker should also see more work but is just a low-end option in PPR leagues.

Broncos RB Royce Freeman (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. He's reportedly dealing with a high-ankle sprain. HC Vance Joseph has labeled Freeman "day-to-day," but consider him a poor bet to play against the Chiefs this weekend. That'd leave the backfield to Phillip Lindsay and Devontae Booker.

Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay was ejected in the 2nd quarter of Sunday's game at Baltimore for throwing a punch. That carries the potential to also get him suspended for Week 4. We'll see what the league has to say this week.

Broncos RB Royce Freeman will be listed atop the depth chart for Week 1, according to the Denver Post's Ryan O'Halloran. Freeman had been behind RB Devontae Booker all August. But the rookie was clearly the better back this preseason, averaging 5.6 yards per carry to Booker's 3.7 Both guys will be involved against the Seahawks on Sunday, but Freeman is the better fantasy play.

The Broncos' initial -- "unofficial" -- depth chart lists RB Devontae Booker as the starter, with rookie Royce Freeman 2nd, followed by De'Angelo Henderson, Dave Williams and Phillip Lindsay. That's not a surprising development but at least a reminder that Freeman hasn't taken over the gig yet. Playing time will be interesting to watch as Denver gets into preseason action. We're still betting Freeman will wind up leading the team in carries, but there's certainly value potential on Booker at his RB49 ADP -- as well as the chance he remains the Broncos' lead back.

The Broncos selected Oregon RB Royce Freeman with the 71st overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. Freeman was a 4-year producer for the Ducks, tallying 1,365+ rushing yards and 16+ TDs 3 separate times. He left school with a 5.9 yards-per-carry average. Freeman also contributed in the passing game, totaling 79 catches for 814 yards (10.3 YPC) and 4 scores over the past 4 seasons. The 6’0, 229-pounder tested as a 55th percentile athlete at the Combine and was especially impressive with a 72nd percentile time in the 3-cone, a drill that’s been predictive of NFL success for RBs. Freeman lands in a good spot in Denver, where he’s capable of immediately pushing Devontae Booker for the lead job.

The Broncos are releasing RB C.J. Anderson, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. It makes sense as a financial move. Anderson would have been due $4.5 million in salary this year and next, with none of that guaranteed. The production has not merited that. After a promising breakthrough in 2014, Anderson played his way into a committee while dealing with lower-body injuries in 2015, then missed 9 games in 2016. He played in all 16 contests last year and topped 15 carries per game for the 2nd straight year but managed just 4.1 yards per rush. Football Outsiders rated Anderson outside the top 30 RBs in rushing efficiency and outside the top 40 in receiving efficiency. The move will leave only Devontae Booker and 2017 rookie De'Angelo Henderson on the RB depth chart, which all but guarantees Denver will draft another back -- probably within the 1st 4 rounds. Don't take Booker or Henderson ahead of the double-digit rounds in best-ball drafting right now. Anderson, meanwhile, should find another suitor before training camp. He's heading into just his age-27 season.

Broncos insider Troy Renck reports that RB Devontae Booker was limited by the flu in Sunday's loss to the Dolphins. He played just 11 snaps and handled only 3 touches after averaging 28.8 and 10.6, respectively, over his previous 5 games. RB C.J. Anderson piled up 110 total yards on 19 touches vs. Miami, but it sounds like we can't count on that type of volume again as long as Booker is healthy.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker practiced on Wednesday for the 1st time since undergoing wrist surgery in late July. It's unclear if he'll play against the Cowboys this weekend. When he does return, he figures to be 3rd on the depth chart behind C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles. Booker is worth monitoring but not worth rostering outside of super-deep fantasy leagues.

Update: HC Vance Joseph said after practice that Booker won't play on Sunday. He's likely targeting a Week 3 return.
