Broncos RB Devontae Booker practiced on Wednesday for the 1st time since undergoing wrist surgery in late July. It's unclear if he'll play against the Cowboys this weekend. When he does return, he figures to be 3rd on the depth chart behind C.J. Anderson and Jamaal Charles. Booker is worth monitoring but not worth rostering outside of super-deep fantasy leagues.

Update: HC Vance Joseph said after practice that Booker won't play on Sunday. He's likely targeting a Week 3 return.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker (wrist) is targeting a Week 3 return, according to insider Troy Renck. Booker was back at practice on Wednesday with a brace on the fractured wrist he had surgery on in late July. He'll have an opportunity to carve out a role once he's back to 100%. But between the injury, a disappointing rookie season and a crowded Denver depth chart, it's tough to spend a draft pick on Booker.

Broncos HC Vance Joseph announced that RB Devontae Booker will undergo surgery to repair his fractured wrist on Friday. He's expected to miss 6 weeks, which would have Booker back a few days before Week 1. Joseph expects him to be ready for the start of the regular season. Still, the missed camp and preseason time will make Booker a non-option in fantasy lineups early on.

Broncos RB Devontae Booker has been diagnosed with a fractured wrist. The injury reportedly occurred during OTAs in June but wasn't discovered until Booker had it looked at when he reported to training camp on Wednesday. Insider Mike Klis hears the injury might cost Booker the "first game or 2 of the regular season." Pro Football Talk has a similar timeline, with Booker out "up to 6-8 weeks." It's a tough break for a guy who seemed to be building momentum and making a push for the starting job. He's now a long shot to make a fantasy impact before October at the earliest. Booker's injury strengthens C.J. Anderson's grip on the lead role and removes 1 hurdle between Jamaal Charles and a return to fantasy relevance.

Broncos RB Jamaal Charles says he feels like his repaired knees are all the way back. "I am doing everything," he told Troy Renck of TheDenverChannel.com. "I have been cutting the last couple of days with the guys during the offseason workouts. I feel like the way I am cutting that I am back to the normal me, man. It feels good to be moving around again." There's certainly opportunity ahead of Charles if he's truly back, but we'll wait to see how he looks in training camp and the preseason. The Broncos clearly took a wait-and-see approach with their non-guaranteed, incentive-boosted contract.

The Broncos plan on deploying a RB-by-committee this season. “You need two or three guys that can carry the load," HC Vance Joseph said from OTAs on Monday. "It is no longer a one-guy position." Denver has built up some backfield depth this offseason by drafting De'Angelo Henderson and signing Jamaal Charles. They join returnees C.J. Anderson and Devontae Booker. Anderson will head to training camp as the favorite for touches, but we'll be keeping an eye on how the work will be divvied. You can currently land Anderson in the 5th round of MFL10s, which feels like a fair price.

Broncos HC Vance Joseph said Friday that the team is targeting camp time for getting a full look at RB Jamaal Charles. "We're hoping to get Jamaal full speed by training camp," Joseph said, per ESPN.com. "He's going to obviously rehab and have time to get healthy the entire OTAs and the entire summer. So, our goal for Jamaal is to have him on the field during training camp." Don't overlook the fact that Charles still needs rehab time. The Chiefs said they released him after a failed physical, and Charles spent last year dealing with issues in both knees. Seattle also had him in for a visit but chose Eddie Lacy instead. If he does make it all the way back, there's opportunity to emerge as Denver's top back. But there's also a chance that Charles is done. It'll be an interesting summer.

The Broncos have agreed to a 1-year deal with RB Jamaal Charles. Per insider Mike Klis, the contract has a base value of $900K. Charles can earn up to $3.75 million in game-day roster incentives. The 30-year-old missed all but 3 games last year after dealing with complications from his 2015 torn ACL. Charles also tore his ACL back in 2011. He’s reportedly 90% recovered from his latest surgery and has been cleared to practice. It remains completely unclear, though, exactly what he has left in the tank. We’ll be keeping a close eye on Charles this summer. If anywhere close to pre-injury form, he could push for Denver's lead job.

The Broncos have hired Mike McCoy as their new OC. It's a homecoming after McCoy spent the 2009-2012 seasons in the same role. His QBs during that stretch ranged from Kyle Orton to Tim Tebow to Peyton Manning. McCoy was able to coax top-15 finishes in total yards and passing yards out of the Orton-led squads. With Tebow in 2011, Denver ranked 1st in rushing attempts and yards but 31st in passing and 23rd in total offense. McCoy's 2012 season with Manning produced a #4 finish in total yards and #2 in points. McCoy struggled as the Chargers' HC for the past 4 years, producing a 27-37 record (although injuries did him no favors). All 4 of those squads led by QB Philip Rivers ranked top 10 in passing yards. McCoy is widely regarded as 1 of the better offensive minds in the game, so this is a nice hire for Denver. He seems to lean toward a pass-heavy attack but has shown the willingness and ability to adjust his scheme. We'll see what he has in mind for this Broncos attack.

The Broncos have hired Vance Joseph as their new HC. The 44-year-old spent the 2016 season as the Dolphins' defensive coordinator after numerous stops as a defensive backs coach in both college and the pros. We'll see who he brings aboard to run the offense.

Broncos RB Justin Forsett carried 6 times and caught 3 passes among 3 targets in his debut with the team Sunday against the Titans. That beat incumbent Devontae Booker by 3 rushing attempts and 1 target. Forsett totaled just 35 yards against a weak Tennessee defense, so he's not close to helping your fantasy team. But his debut shows that you can't count on Booker (who totaled 11 yards) over the next few weeks either.

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak said Wednesday that RB Justin Forsett will play against the Titans this weekend. That's not a surprise considering Forsett has spent 2 seasons in Kubiak's offense. Kubiak added that the veteran will split work with RB Devontae Booker "like Kapri Bibbs did." Bibbs averaged just 5 carries over his last 5 outings. We're not expecting Forsett to see much more than that this weekend, although his role could grow if Booker continues to struggle.

The Broncos on Monday placed RB Kapri Bibbs (ankle) on IR and signed RB Justin Forsett. HC Gary Kubiak worked with Forsett in Houston in 2012 and in Baltimore in 2014, so there's familiarity here. The 31-year-old Forsett has looked washed up on his way to 3.1 yards per carry this season, though. He's no immediate threat to Devontae Booker but could see an increased role if the rookie continues to struggle. Booker has been held under 3.4 yards per carry in 5 straight games.

Broncos insider Mike Klis believes that Kapri Bibbs could take over as the team's lead back this week. It's just 1 beat writers opinion, but HC Gary Kubiak did say Monday that Bibbs has earned more opportunities. He carried just twice for 11 yards in Sunday night's loss to the Raiders but took a short catch for an impressive 69-yard TD. RB Devontae Booker, meanwhile, mustered just 22 yards on his 10 totes. He's now averaging just 2.6 yards per carry in 2 games as Denver's lead back. We probably won't know exactly how the backfield touches will be divvied in Week 10, which is a shame in a pristine matchup against the Saints. At least for now, consider both Bibbs and Booker risk/reward fantasy plays.

The Broncos have placed RB C.J. Anderson on IR with a torn meniscus. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Anderson is undergoing arthroscopic surgery on Thursday to determine whether it's a full or partial tear. Depending on the findings, he might have a shot to return. The earliest he could do so is Week 16, though, so he can be dropped in redraft leagues. Devontae Booker will step in as Denver's lead back and has the 6th easiest remaining RB schedule. The rookie could produce top 10 numbers the rest of the way.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Broncos C.J. Anderson does not have a torn ACL. So that's good. The team is expected to update Anderson's status later today, per Schefter, so we should get a better idea of how long he'll be out. Rookie Devontae Booker will operate as Denver's lead back while Anderson is sidelined. The Broncos' next 3 opponents rank 24th or worse in fantasy points allowed to RBs.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson is expected to miss "at least a few weeks" with bone bruise in his knee, according to insider Mike Garafolo. Anderson is getting a 2nd opinion today to determine the exact extent of the damage. We should get a more concrete timetable for his return later this week, but NFL Network's Ian Rapoport hears that "being out for the season is also possible." RB Devontae Booker will take over as Denver's lead (feature?) back for as long as Anderson is out. The rookie has been impressive this year, averaging 4.8 yards per carry and 7.7 yards per catch. RB Kapri Bibbs moves up to the #2 spot on the depth chart with Anderson out.

Broncos RB C.J. Anderson missed Wednesday's practice to get a 2nd opinion on a knee injury suffered last week, according to insider Mike Klis. Anderson played through the issue in Monday night's win over the Chargers. "There is hope the injury could be minor in nature, although it’s also possible he could miss an extended period," Klis writes. We'll update this situation as soon as we learn more. RB Devontae Booker, who had already turned Denver's backfield into a committee, obviously needs to be owned in all leagues.

Broncos HC Gary Kubiak said Monday that RB Devontae Booker "deserves some more opportunities." The rookie has averaged 4.7 yards per carry through 6 games vs. just 3.5 for C.J. Anderson. "When he's had some opportunities he's done some really good things," Kubiak said of Booker. "As a young player, we're trying to get him going as far as protection and those type of things, and he's starting to handle himself better." Kubiak added that Anderson will "still be involved plenty," and he remains the better fantasy bet for now. But this will be a situation to keep a close eye on. Booker should be owned in most fantasy leagues.
