Tavon Austin Fantasy Football News | Shark Bites

The Bills have signed WR Tavon Austin. We'd bet on this being a "camp body" situation. Buffalo already has Jamison Crowder to likely lead slot-WR duties, with Isaiah McKenzie, Marquez Stevenson and 5th-round rookie Khalil Shakir all fitting a similar mold. Stevenson has reportedly had some struggles at OTAs, so there could be competition between him and Austin. Even in that case, though, the winner would be far from fantasy relevance.

Jaguars WR D.J. Chark has been placed on IR and will miss the rest of the season with his fractured ankle. Tavon Austin somewhat unbelievably stepped in as Jacksonville's #3 WR after Chark exited Thursday night's game in Cincinnati, but we wouldn't bother adding him to fantasy rosters. WRs Marvin Jones and Laviska Shenault should pick up extra volume with Chark out of the picture

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott highlighted Tavon Austin when asked which of the team's new WRs have impressed him most this offseason. "I didn’t know he was as good of a receiver as he was and could run routes as well as he does, and catch the ball every single time,” Prescott said of Austin. “For me, from that standpoint, he’s not just a gadget, gadget guy. You don’t have to run him on speed sweeps and all that steps opens up the offense and you can use him there as well. He’s a guy you can put out there, inside, outside and trust he’s going to get open.” Austin has flashed throughout training camp, but it's worth noting that he was on the field for just 3 of 10 snaps with Prescott in the preseason opener -- fewer than Michael Gallup, Allen Hurns and Terrance Williams. We'll continue to monitor this WR corps, but Austin's playing time will need to grow if he has any chance to be a fantasy factor.

The Rams have traded WR Tavon Austin to the Cowboys in exchange for a 6th-round pick. The 8th overall pick of the 2013 NFL Draft has been a colossal bust, never topping 58 catches or 509 yards in a season. He's averaging a RB-like 8.7 yards per catch for his career. A special-teams and gadget player at this point, Austin is unlikely to emerge as a fantasy factor in Dallas.

Rams WR Tavon Austin sustained a concussion in the 4th quarter of Thursday night's win over the 49ers. It's the 1st concussion of his career. Austin has become a non-factor in Los Angeles' revamped offense, totaling just 9 touches through 3 games.

The Rams finally have themselves a true #1 WR. They traded CB E.J. Gaines and a 2018 2nd-round pick to Buffalo in exchange for WR Sammy Watkins. It's an aggressive move by a team that has poured resources into its offense this offseason. Watkins joins a WR group that includes free-agent signee (and former teammate) Robert Woods, rookies Cooper Kupp and Josh Reynolds and holdover Tavon Austin. A heathy Watkins is clearly the top dog here, though. Of course, he'll also be dealing with a QB downgrade from Tyrod Taylor to Jared Goff. Watkins' fantasy stock takes a bit of a hit with this move.

Rams WR Tavon Austin has missed the past 5 training-camp practices with a hamstring injury, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. Austin also missed spring workouts after undergoing wrist surgery. HC Sean McVay labeled him "day-to-day," but the missed time is not ideal for a guy trying to learn a brand new offense with a young QB. WR Pharoh Cooper has been getting 1st-team reps in Austin's absence -- alongside Robert Woods and rookie Cooper Kupp.

Rams WR Tavon Austin has been a full participant in training camp, according to insider Alden Gonzalez. Austin missed OTAs after undergoing wrist surgery, but it should be a non-issue going forward. We'll see how Los Angeles' new coaching staff plans on deploying Austin this season. He's basically free in drafts, with a recent MFL10 ADP in the 15th round.

New Rams HC Sean McVay wants to add the deep ball to WR Tavon Austin's repertoire this season. "He’s shown he can track the ball down the field," McVay told ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "Really, as far as establishing him as a deep threat, I think we’re just looking for all our receivers to be complete. You want to be able to have a short, intermediate and deep route tree." Austin has made just 15 career catches on balls thrown at least 15 yards downfield, according to ESPN. There are 125 players with more over the same span. Whether that's more an issue with Austin or his offensive coaches to date remains to be seen. McVay did just spent three years in Washington with 5'10 DeSean Jackson, and OC Matt LaFleur was in Atlanta with 5'8 Taylor Gabriel last season. Gabriel scored 5 times on receptions of 25+ yards. Austin will likely be out until at least training camp after arthroscopic wrist surgery, so we'll have to wait to see the plan in action. Anything that improves on his 9.1 career yards per catch is welcome, though.

Rams WR Tavon Austin recently underwent surgery on his left wrist and will miss OTAs, according to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. We don't have any details on the injury, but Gonzalez does add that Austin is expected to be ready for training camp. As long as that's the case, the wrist issue won't be a major concern -- although missing any practice time in new HC Sean McVay's offense isn't ideal.

The Rams have hired Sean McVay as their HC. The 30-year-old becomes the youngest HC in NFL history. He already has 8 seasons of experience in the league, though, including the past 3 as Washington's OC. The 2016 Redskins finished 3rd in total yards and 12th in points, led by the #2 ranked passing attack. McVay's 1st order of business in Los Angeles will be Jared Goff, who is coming off a disappointing rookie campaign.

Rams WR Kenny Britt (shoulder) is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals after missing practice all week. Los Angeles will trot out Tavon Austin, Brian Quick and Pharoh Cooper as its top 3 WRs in the finale.

The Rams have fired HC Jeff Fisher. He finishes his 5-year stint with the team with a 31-45-1 record. None of his teams won more than 7 games or sniffed the playoffs. Most damning is that the Rams never showed any signs of progress under Fisher's watch. We'll see who Los Angeles tabs as its interim HC, but this will remain an offense best avoided in fantasy lineups the rest of the way. The Rams travel to Seattle to face a pissed-off Seahawks squad on Thursday night.

Update: Special Teams Coordinator John Fassel has been promoted to interim HC. Fassel has only been a HC for DII New Mexico Highlands University.

Rams WR Tavon Austin (chest) put in a full week of practice and will play against the Falcons on Sunday. He’s been held under 30 yards in 5 of his last 8 games and shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups.

Rams WR Tavon Austin (chest) is inactive for today’s game against the Patriots. Rookie Pharoh Cooper figures to get some run in the slot but shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups. WR Kenny Britt and TE Lance Kendricks are the best bets for targets.

Rams WR Tavon Austin (chest) didn't practice all week and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Patriots. His absence should funnel a few extra targets toward WR Kenny Britt and TE Lance Kendricks.

The Rams have reached a 4-year extension with WR Tavon Austin worth $42 million, including $30 million guaranteed, according to Austin's agent Greg Barnett. That might not mean anything for his fantasy football value, but it suggests that the franchise continues to feel strongly about him. That supports Austin as the likely target leader for the Rams in 2016 and beyond. He's a solid pick in PPR drafts near the bottom of WR4 range.

Rams WR Tavon Austin (hand) is active for today’s game against the Browns. He only practiced on Friday this week. It’s unclear how big an issue that hand will be, but we’d avoid Austin in Week 7 fantasy lineups.
