Bengals TE Tyler Eifert injured his elbow in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Ravens. He was in obvious pain and wasn't moving the arm as he made his way to the locker room. We'll update his status when we learn more, but this has the look of a serious injury. An extended absence for Eifert would put TE Jermaine Gresham on the spot-start radar.
Bengals TEs Tyler Eifert (shoulder) and Jermaine Gresham (groin, back) were sidelined all spring. Eifert is back to 100% and participating in training camp. But Gresham remains sidelined. It's a chance for Eifert to separate himself and earn a bigger role in the passing game. We'll keep an eye on his progress. For now, consider Eifert an intriguing fantasy backup. Gresham is off the radar.
ESPN's Field Yates hears that Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham is recovering from offseason sports hernia surgery. Cincinnati hasn't revealed any details about his status, but he's been sidelined all spring. Gresham's availability for training camp is uncertain. The veteran is nothing more than a low-upside TE2 anyways. He finished 21st at his position in fantasy points last year and will likely cede more targets to TE Tyler Eifert in 2014.
Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert have been sidelined in OTAs. Gresham's ailment is undisclosed. Eifert is dealing with a shoulder injury. "It's more of a feel thing," he said. "It's not a serious injury." HC Marvin Lewis expects both guys to be ready for training camp. We'll keep an eye on their statuses. As long as Gresham and Eifert are both on the field, both will struggle for reliable fantasy value. The absence of either would make the other at least a high-end TE2.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora lists Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham as a potential salary-cap casualty. That should perk up the ears of Tyler Eifert owners. Eifert's 60 targets last year ranked just 21st among TEs. That number could nearly double this season if Gresham is out of the picture. Gresham is only due $2.4 million in 2014 but is coming off a season that saw him rank 63rd out of 64 TEs in Pro Football Focus' rankings. Gresham graded out poorly as both a receiver and blocker. His release would be addition by subtraction for Cincinnati. And it'd make Eifert a potential top 10 fantasy TE in 2014.
As expected, Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (shoulder) are active for today's playoff game against the Chargers. Both guys put in full practices on Friday and should be available for their normal duties. That means they'll split targets, leaving them both as unappealing fantasy plays.
Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (neck) are listed as questionable for this weekend's game against the Chargers. Both guys puts in a full practice on Friday, making it seem likely that they'll play. Neither is a recommended fantasy option, though. San Diego was surprisingly tough against TEs this season, finishing 16th in fantasy points allowed and 12th in Football Outsiders' coverage rankings. Gresham and Eifert combined for 1 catch on 4 targets against the Chargers back in Week 13.
Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (neck) returned to practice on Thursday. It puts him on track to play against the Chargers this weekend. TE Jermaine Gresham is also expected to play after sitting out the regular-season finale. The 2 TEs combined for just 1 catch on 4 targets against San Diego earlier this season. Neither will be a recommended fantasy play in the Wild Card Round.
Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) and Tyler Eifert (neck) are inactive for today's finale against the Ravens. Both guys will try to get ready for next week's playoff opener. Alex Smith will serve as Cincy's lead TE today but isn't a fantasy option.
Bengals TE Tyler Eifert (neck) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Ravens. His rookie season will end with 39 catches, 445 yards and 2 TDs in 15 games. His status for the playoffs is uncertain. TE Jermaine Gresham (hamstring) is questionable for the season finale. He's just a TE2 if he plays.
Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham (groin) and Tyler Eifert (shoulder) were held out of Thursday's practice. Both guys look iffy for this weekend's game against the Ravens. It's a situation to avoid in fantasy football.
Bengals TEs Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert both sat out Tuesday's practice. Eifert suffered a stinger in Sunday's win over the Vikings. The team provided no official report on Gresham's injury, but he entered Week 16 "probable" with an abdominal issue. We'll see what happens later in the practice week, but expect him to play against the Ravens on Sunday.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (groin) is active for today’s game against the Browns. Neither he nor TE Tyler Eifert is a recommended fantasy starter.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (groin) put in a full week of practice and is probable for Sunday’s game against the Browns. Sitting 30th in fantasy points at the position, Gresham shouldn't be in fantasy lineups. His return also pushes Tyler Eifert back into mid-range TE2 territory.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (groin) returned to practice on Wednesday. He was close to playing last weekend and should be available for this Sunday's game against the Browns. That'll leave both Gresham and Tyler Eifert as middling TE2s.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (groin) is inactive for today’s game against the Ravens. That means more action for rookie TE Tyler Eifert. He’s a borderline TE1 for Week 10.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham injured his groin on Wednesday and was unable to practice on Thursday or Friday. He’s listed as questionable for this weekend’s game against the Ravens. Gresham is a game-time decision at best and shouldn’t be in fantasy lineups. TE Tyler Eifert will get a boost in playing time if Gresham can’t go.
After being limited on Wednesday, Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham (groin) did not practice at all on Thursday. It looks like he got hurt in Wednesday's practice. Gresham seems extremely iffy for this weekend's game against the Ravens. Rookie Tyler Eifert would get a nice bump in value if Gresham can't go.
Bengals OC Jay Gruden made it clear that TE Tyler Eifert still has work to do. “He’s still a rookie,” Gruden said. “He needs reps. It is a concern.
Rookies make rookie mistakes and we have to make sure we minimize those
mistakes. But we’ll see how in a game situation how he does.” Eifert was a star early in training camp, but then missed time with a wrist injury. He's ready for Week 1 but isn't a recommended fantasy starter just yet. He could emerge as an option when bye weeks start to hit.
According to ESPN blogger Jamison Hensley, the Bengals "will use two tight ends in their primary formation." Hensley drew that conclusion from the release of FB John Conner. It's no shock, but that's good news for TEs Jermaine Gresham and Tyler Eifert. Both players could wind up in the 12-15 range among fantasy TEs, while each carries top 12 upside. We prefer the upside on Eifert, though Gresham is sliding way down the board in many fantasy football drafts at this point.
