The Chargers nabbed Tennessee WR Josh Palmer with the 77th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. The 6’1, 210-pounder clocked a decent 4.51-second 40 time at his Pro Day but disappointed with a 34-inch vertical. That was a surprise because Palmer shows plenty of contested-catch ability on tape. He also has some of the stickiest hands in this year’s WR class, with only 4 drops on 164 career targets (2.4% drop rate). Palmer never reached even 500 receiving yards in any of his 4 college seasons, though. And even as a senior last year, he accounted for a modest 23% of Tennessee’s receiving yardage. Palmer will compete with Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton for snaps behind Keenan Allen and Mike Williams this year. Williams is set to become a free agent next offseason, though, so there could be opportunity for Palmer.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen has been placed on the COVID list. He was already expected to miss Sunday's finale with his hamstring injury, but now he's definitely out for that one. Allen finishes the 2020 campaign with a 100-992-8 line. It snaps his 3-year streak of 1,100+ yards but marks his 3rd 100+ catch season among the last 4. Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton and Tyron Johnson will close out the season as the Chargers' top 3 WRs.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is not expected to play vs. the Chiefs this weekend, according to The Athletic's Daniel Popper. Allen has been battling this hamstring for a few weeks and has no reason to rush back for a meaningless finale. Mike Williams, Jalen Guyton and Tyron Johnson will close out the season as the Chargers' top 3 WRs.
Chargers WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) is inactive for today’s game against the Broncos. That leaves Mike Williams, Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton as QB Justin Herbert’s top 3 WRs today. L.A. is also without TE Hunter Henry.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Chargers are "concerned" WR Keenan Allen (hamstring) won't be able to play vs. the Raiders tonight. Schefter adds that Allen is "likely to be limited" if he does suit up. We'll get the Chargers' inactives around 7 pm ET tonight. Allen will obviously come with a lower ceiling and floor if he ends up playing. WRs Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton figure to get more playing time with Allen banged up and Mike Williams not expected to play. TE Hunter Henry and RB Austin Ekeler should also get target boosts. Downgrade QB Justin Herbert with these WR injuries.
NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Chargers WRs Keenan Allen (hamstring) and Mike Williams (back) are game-time decisions for tonight's meeting with the Raiders. "Both receivers were sore Sunday and the short week doesn’t help," Pelissero adds. We'll get Chargers inactives around 7 pm ET. We'd try to avoid Williams at less than 100%. Allen will obviously carry more risk if active but would still be tough to bench. Tyron Johnson and Jalen Guyton are the healthy WRs behind Allen and Williams. RB Austin Ekeler and TE Hunter Henry could also get target bumps tonight.
