Chig Okonkwo Will Play Week 9

Titans TE Chig Okonkwo (foot) is off the final Week 9 injury report. He was limited in Wednesday’s practice and sidelined on Thursday, but he returned for a full workout on Friday. Okonkwo should be ready for his usual role vs. the Chargers this weekend but has been ceding routes to TE Gunnar Helm lately. Neither guy is a recommended fantasy start.

        Titans Changing Play Callers

Titans HC Brian Callahan is handing off play-calling duties to QBs coach Bo Hardegree. It's an interesting decision to go with Hardegree rather than OC Nick Holz. The Titans offense has been a mess through three games, ranking 28th in points, 31st in total yards, and dead last in yards per play. The offensive line has struggled with injuries to OT J.C. Latham and G Kevin Zeitler, while WR Calvin Ridley has been far too quiet. Hardegree's only play-calling experience came in nine games for the 2023 Raiders as interim OC. That team averaged 22.9 points per game under Hardegree -- up from 15.8 over the first eight games. We'll see what Hardegree does for the Titans going forward, but it's tough to imagine the offense getting any worse. The unit should at least benefit from an easier schedule after Week 4. Tennessee has opened with a gauntlet of defenses: Broncos, Rams, Colts, Texans.

Chig Okonkwo Leaves With Abdomen Injury

Titans TE Chig Okonwko is questionable to return to Sunday's game vs. the Texans with an abdomen injury. It's presumably an aggravation of the issue that had him questionable heading in. We'll update Okonkwo's status when we know more.

        Chig Okonwko Active

Titans TE Chig Okonkwo (abdomen) is active for today’s game vs. the Texans. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and did not practice on Friday, so there’s elevated risk to using Okonkwo in Week 18 fantasy lineups.

Chig Okonkwo Questionable For Week 18

Titans TE Chig Okonkwo (abdomen) is questionable for this weekend’s game vs. the Texans. He was added to the injury report on Thursday and did not practice on Friday, so he seems legitimately iffy for this meaningless game. We’ll get Tennessee’s inactives around 11:30 am ET on Sunday.

        Will Levis Starting on Sunday

Titans QB Will Levis will be back as the starter this Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Levis has been dealing with a shoulder injury and has not played since Week 6. He replaces back-up Mason Rudolph who has started since Levis was out.

Chig Okonkwo expected to return to practice soon

Titans HC Mike Vrabel shared on Saturday that he expects TE Chig Okonkwo to return to practice this coming week. The second-year player has been held out due to an undisclosed injury sustained on Tuesday. This news indicates the strong possibility that he'll be healthy to begin the regular season. Despite the free agent addition of WR DeAndre Hopkins, Okonkwo should still carry some quality fantasy value as a low-end TE1/high-end TE2 in 2023. We'll monitor this situation and update as more information becomes available. See where Okonkwo appears in our current TE rankings.

Tannehill "very likely" done for the season

Titans insider Paul Kuharsky hears that QB Ryan Tannehill is "very likely" done for the season with an ankle injury that may require surgery. Tannehill has hurt this right ankle twice this season -- but was surprisingly allowed to re-enter last week's loss to the Chargers. His absence leaves QB Malik Willis at the controls the rest of the way. The rookie made 2 starts the first time Tannehill went down, TOTALING 135 passing yards on 26 attempts. Tennessee will go as run-heavy as possible with Willis, tanking the fantasy value of pass catchers like TE Chig Okonkwo and WR Treylon Burks.

Titans passing game does only what it needs to

Titans QB Ryan Tannehill had a modestly efficient game in Sunday's win over the Colts. He completed 17 of 21 passes for 137 yards (6.5 per attempt) and 2 TDs. Tannehill found WR Robert Woods and rookie TE Chig Okonkwo for his 2 scores. Woods and RB Dontrell Hilliard tied for the team lead with 4 catches apiece. Okonkwo's 3 receptions tied RB Derrick Henry for the next spot, even though Okonkwo trailed both Geoff Swaim and Austin Hooper in routes. WR Treylon Burks left early with a left foot injury.
