The NFL officially announced Bucs QB Jameis Winston's 3-game suspension for violating the personal conduct policy. Winston issued a statement and made no mention of appealing the ruling. "I now look forward to putting this behind me and I will continue to work hard every day to be a positive influence in my community and be the best person, teammate and leader I can be," Winston wrote. So he'll miss the first 3 games of the season against the Saints, Eagles and Steelers. He'll return for Week 4 before going on a Week 5 bye. It makes Winston undraftable in standard-sized, lineup-setting leagues -- but he still makes sense as a late-round QB2 or QB3 in best ball. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick is the favorite to start those first 3 weeks but will likely only be an option in 2-QB leagues. Fitzpatrick should at least be able to keep the Bucs offense on track. Tampa averaged 24.5 points in the 4 games Fitzpatrick saw extensive action in last year.
The forecast for today's Bucs-Jags game calls for a slight chance of rain with winds of 17-20 mph. Gusts could come in at 25-30 mph. That's enough wind to impact the passing and kicking games. QBs Jameis Winston and Nick Foles come with increased risk in Week 13 fantasy lineups. Try to avoid Ks Matt Gay and Josh Lambo.
The Bucs have hired Bruce Arians as their new HC. Byron Leftwich will serve as the OC, but it'll be Arians running the show. He was out of coaching this past year but spent the previous 5 seasons as the Cardinals' HC and also has 9 years of experience as an NFL OC. After struggling early in his career, Arians has landed 7 of his last 9 offenses inside the top 14 in total yards. He tends to lean toward the pass, with just 1 of those last 9 offenses ranking higher in rush attempts than pass attempts. All 9 of those units finished top 15 in pass yards, with 5 cracking the top 10. We'd expect a pass-leaning attack in Tampa Bay -- good news for QB Jameis Winston and WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin
Bucs GM Jason Licht said at his end-of-season press conference on Monday that QB Jameis Winston will be the team's starter in 2019. "There’s a lot to like about Jamies and he’ll be here next year," Licht said. Winston's 2018 got off to a rough start. He was suspended for the first 2 games and then got benched in his 3rd start. But he took back over in Week 12 and completed 63.3% of his passes with 11 TDs vs. just 3 INTs over the final 6 games. Winston was 12th among QBs in fantasy points over that span. Returning Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and O.J. Howard, Winston should be in the QB1 mix again next year.
The Bucs have fired HC Dirk Koetter, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. After going 9-7 in his 1st season at the helm, Koetter's Bucs went 5-11 in each of the last 2. We'll see who Tampa tabs as his replacement -- and whether they keep OC Todd Monken.
Bucs HC Dirk Koetter admitted that he'll consider going back to QB Jameis Winston after Sunday's loss to the Redskins. "Of course, yes ... We'll talk about all personnel issues tomorrow," Koetter said in his post-game presser. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick chucked for 406 yards vs. Washington, but he finished with 0 TDs, threw 2 INTs and lost a fumble. We'll see who the Bucs roll with for Week 11. Whoever it is will be a viable QB1 against the Giants.
