The Athletic's Daniel Popper says RB Jaret Patterson "got a notable amount of work with the first team" in Thursday's full-team drills. Rookie RB Kimani Vidal, meanwhile, rotated with Isaiah Spiller and Elijah Dotson with the second team. Patterson spent most of last season on the Chargers' practice squad but finished the year back on the Washington practice squad. He then signed a futures contract with the Chargers this offseason.
OC Greg Roman, when asked if there's a RB pecking order: "Not right now, no. We know Gus [Edwards] and J.K. [Dobbins] are two of the leaders on the team, and then we just got to see how everything moves and fits from there, see how it progresses."
Popper: "The real battle, it seems, will be for the third and fourth spots on the depth chart, as long as Edwards and Dobbins are healthy."
There are a few noteworthy points here.
We'll keep watching every area of this developing Chargers offense to see where fantasy value might come from.
This picture remains far from full focus.
You'll find Edwards, Dobbins, and Vidal in that order in our non-PPR RB rankings right now. The gap between Dobbins and Vidal could grow if the rookie continues to miss out on first-team reps.
Neither Edwards nor Dobbins has much receiving history to highlight, which makes the group a bit tougher to sort for PPR purposes.
Although Edwards figures to remain the rankings leader here until/unless he suffers a physical setback, his lack of pass-catching will limit how high he can climb. And it should keep your 2024 expectations in check.
Expect Vidal to slide in ADP if he continues to lack time with the starters. The rookie will be worth no more than an end-of-draft flier if nothing changes on that front.
The main reason to pass on the star tight end in your fantasy football draft has nothing to do with him. But you might want to target these other Raiders.
