Injury update for 8.20

Injuries

Le’Veon Bell

Bell suffered what is being referred to as a mid foot sprain in his first series during Monday’s game and could be sidelined “for a while”. Bell did not miss a game in college due to injury, but he is having trouble at the start of his NFL career with knee and now foot issues. Rookie injury bugs bite often in running backs. Last year was an anomaly with Martin, Morris, Miller and Brown all having healthy rookie seasons. Don’t expect that run of health to be the case with this years class of rookie running backs.

Kirk Cousins

Cousins injured his foot in Monday’s game. However, the injury is not serious and Washington expects him to be ready for the regular season opener and possibly the final preseason game. This is good news for a team whose franchise quarterback is coming off of major knee surgery.

Leonard Hankerson

Hankerson left Monday’s game with a knee injury, but no info has been released yet, leading us to believe it could be a minor issue. The receiver did have a touchdown in the game.

Dustin Keller

As expected, the Dolphins Keller (knee) on IR on Tuesday, ending his season. This could also be a minor blow to the fantasy value of quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who fantasy owners expected to improve due to the addition of better weapons in 2013.

Victor Cruz

Cruz suffered a minor heel injury in Sunday’s game and has been seen walking around in a boot, but the Giants are expecting him to be at 100 percent for the season opener.

Danny Amendola

Warning bells are ringing for Danny Amendola owners as he has missed the last two days practice. Sources say that his absence is not injury related but it’s tough to trust that when his injury history is what it is.

Recovery News

Calvin Johnson

Johnson (knee) will suit up on Thursday when Detroit plays New England.

Ahmad Bradshaw

Bradshaw (foot) is still not ready to play in preseason games, but the Colts still expect him to be ready when the season begins.

Heath Miller

The Steelers are expecting Miller (knee) to return to practice soon and to begin playing early in the regular season. Miller has only missed five games in eight seasons, so he should be a safe bet as a mid-tier tight end, after grabbing career highs in receiving yards (816) and touchdowns (8) in 2012.

Other rankings are stale  before the 2nd round.
