Bucs WR Emeka Egbuka didn’t look like a rookie in a Week 1 win over the Falcons. The Round 1 pick went off for 4 catches, 67 yards, and 2 TDs on an 18.7% target share.
Egbuka scored from 30 yards out in the second quarter. QB Baker Mayfield threw into a tight downfield window, and Egbuka hauled in the perfect pass right at the goal line. Deep in the fourth quarter, the rookie scored on another downfield route, this time when he gained inside leverage on the DB. Again, Mayfield put the ball in a perfect spot.
Overall, Egbuka’s 67 yards led the team. He tallied only one fewer catch and two fewer targets than Mike Evans, who finished with 5 grabs and 51 scoreless yards.
Remember that Chris Godwin (ankle) will return early in the season, likely around Week 5. But with more performances like this, Egbuka should retain a fantasy-startable role even when the veteran returns.
We’d keep expectations in check a bit next week, as he’ll hit the road to face perhaps the league’s most talented secondary in Houston. Their unit features top talents like Derek Stingley Jr., Kamari Lassiter, Jalen Pitre, Calen Bullock, and C.J. Gardner-Johnson.
