The Dolphins are signing QB Malik Willis to a 3-year, $67.5 million deal with $45 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Willis' $22.5 million average annual salary ranks 21st among QBs. It's a reasonable deal for an unproven player who carries a wide range of outcomes.
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Willis was a third-round pick back in 2022 and has made just six NFL starts.
The first three came in his rookie season with the Titans -- and they were a disaster. Willis TOTALED 234 passing yards, 0 TDs, and three INTs across those three games. He finished the debut campaign with a 50.8% completion rate and 4.5 yards per pass attempt.
After throwing just five passes in 2023, Willis was shipped to Green Bay. He looked like a much-improved passer as a Packer. Willis completed 75.8% of his passes at 9.8 yards per attempt across two starts in 2023 and posted an 85.7% completion rate and 13.7 yards per attempt in his lone 2025 start.
Willis finished his Packers career with a 78.7% completion rate, 10.9 yards per attempt, six TDs, and 0 INTs. Encouraging for sure ... but that all came on just 89 passes.
Willis remains largely unknown as a passer.
But we can safely say that he's a high-end runner for the position. Willis ran for 2,263 yards across his final two college seasons. And he's averaged 44.8 rushing yards across his six NFL starts. That's a full-season pace of 762 yards, which would have led all QBs last year.
That rushing ability makes Willis an intriguing target in the QB2 range of fantasy drafts. But he'll need to continue passing at above-average efficiency to emerge as a true difference maker. That'll be tough in Miami with a shallow pass-catching corps and shaky offensive line.
Willis checks in 21st in our updated QB rankings.
Other Winners & Losers
Willis' arrival means a huge shift in Miami's projected pass volume. In his six NFL starts, Willis' offenses have averaged just 17.8 passes per game on a 36.5% pass rate.
For perspective, the Ravens ranked last in both categories last year, averaging 24.8 passes per game on a 48.0% pass rate.
The Dolphins will almost certainly throw more than 17.8 passes per game this coming season. But they will also almost certainly rank near the bottom of the league in pass volume and rate. We're currently projecting them for 25.7 passes per game on a 46.5% pass rate.
That's especially bad news for WR Jaylen Waddle, who figures to see a reduction in targets this year, even with WR Tyreek Hill out of the picture. Waddle sank from WR20 to WR34 in our PPR rankings with the Willis news.
RB De'Von Achane took a smaller hit, falling from RB5 to RB7. He should still see plenty of rushing volume -- and could be even more efficient with defenses needing to account for Willis' rushing ability. But Achane's target volume, which is a big part of his fantasy value, will take a hit.
