Colts QB Daniel Jones said Wednesday that he "absolutely" expects to be ready for Week 1. Jones is now about 5.5 months removed from surgery to repair a torn Achilles. He participated in individual drills in Wednesday's OTA session. “Definitely still work to be done and progress to be made," Jones added. "So, I think it’s just continuing to get stronger, continuing to run faster, cut harder. And progress, kind of, according to the program.”
2026 Fantasy Football Impact
Jones was in the midst of a nice 2025 season before that Achilles injury. Through Week 13, he ranked seventh among QBs in fantasy points per game.
Just as importantly, Jones supported:
- Jonathan Taylor as the PPR RB2
- Michael Pittman as the WR17
- Alec Pierce as the WR37
- Tyler Warren as the TE7
Taylor, Pittman, and Warren's per-game fantasy production plummeted over the final five games without Jones. (Pierce went from 11.4 points per game to 13.9.)
We're not betting on Jones as more than a QB2 coming off the serious injury. But his availability is important for Indianapolis' skill-position players. Anthony Richardson and Riley Leonard are battling for the backup QB job, although Richardson has been mentioned as a trade candidate.
We're tentatively projecting Jones to be ready for Week 1 but will continue to keep tabs on his progress.
