Bengals DT Geno Atkins is beginning training camp on the active/PUP list. The team can activate its star interior pass-rusher at any point, but this move should remind fantasy owners that Atkins is coming off an ACL tear. Expecting him to get right back to his previous performance level wouldn't be fair, at least until he shows it on the field. We're not pushing Atkins too high up the 2014 IDP rankings at this point. There are safer -- and similar-upside -- options even for DT-specific roles in your IDP league.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Bengals will promote Hue Jackson to OC.  Jackson has spent the past 2 seasons in a variety of assistant coaching roles in Cincinnati.  He was with Oakland the 2 years prior to that -- 1 as OC and 1 as HC.  He also served as Washington's OC in 2003 and Atlanta's OC in 2007.  Jackson oversaw a strong rushing attack in Oakland.  The Raiders ranked 2nd and 7th, respectively, in rushing in his 2 years there.  They ran the ball 51% of the time in 2010 and 47% in 2011.  We like the news for RB Gio Bernard.

If you're hoping the Bengals will move on from QB Andy Dalton sometime soon ... don't.  HC Marvin Lewis said Monday that he continues to believe in his QB.  "He had another very good season," Lewis said, per the team website.  "He’s progressed well.  We need to continue to do things to make his job just easier and easier to do."  We see Dalton as a limited talent with a penchant for inconsistent play.  Another report this week stated that Bengals owner/GM wanted to draft 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick when OC Jay Gruden preferred Dalton 3 years ago.  WR A.J. Green and the rest of the Bengals' offensive talent appears stuck with the "Red Rifle" for the near future.

Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict is active today against the Ravens, as expected.  He made it through the league concussion protocol during the week and remains a must-start IDP.

Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict is officially questionable for Sunday's finale against the Ravens with a concussion.  He put in a full practice Friday, though, which indicates that he should be fine for the game.  We'll certainly watch the pregame inactives to make sure there's no setback.

Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict missed practice Tuesday as he works through the league concussion protocol.  Burfict suffered the injury in Sunday's win over the Vikings.  We'll see if he can gain clearance in time for this Sunday's finale.

Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap (concussion) is active for today's game against Minnesota.  His matchup with Vikings RT Phil Loadholt presents nice sack upside for your IDP league.

Bengals DE Carlos Dunlap is questionable for Sunday's game against the Vikings because of a concussion suffered late in last Sunday night's loss to Pittsburgh.  He missed the 1st 2 days of practice this week but returned to full participation on Friday.  Expect him to play against Minnesota and provide quality IDP numbers.

Bengals OLB Vontaze Burfict is active against the Chargers today.  He was questionable after suffering an ankle sprain in practice Friday, but we'll go ahead and start the NFL tackle leader in IDP formats for fantasy football.

Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict suffered an ankle sprain in Friday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's trip to San Diego.  If Burfict can't play against the Chargers, Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Vincent Rey would start in his place.  We'd start an active Burfict, who leads the league in tackles and faces a top 6 matchup.  The late kickoff on Sunday means you'll have to have a replacement lined up, though.  Rey or Rey Maualuga could work as emergency options if needed.

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga practiced Friday for the 1st time since suffering an MCL sprain -- and a concussion -- in the Week 8 win over the Jets.  He's still not ready to play against the Browns this week (officially doubtful), but the team expects to have Maualuga back in the lineup after the Week 12 bye.  If you picked up LB Vincent Rey in your IDP league after his monster fantasy outing against the Ravens, don't plan on him being useful beyond Week 11.

Bengals LB Vontaze Burfict missed practice Wednesday because of a knee injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Ravens.  ESPN's Coley Harvey reports, however, that Burfict "likely will return to practices later this week."  That's certainly good news.  The league's tackle leader faces a top 10 fantasy football matchup in the Browns this week and should be in IDP lineups.

The Bengals announced Friday that DT Geno Atkins tore his right ACL in Thursday night's loss to the Dolphins.  That's a big blow to the Cincinnati defense, taking away arguably the league's best interior pass-rusher.  Atkins' pressure not only creates sacks for himself but flushes QBs out to the waiting arms of Bengals DEs.  We won't downgrade the team D or any individual Cincinnati defenders in our rest of the way rankings before seeing how the team responds.  But don't be surprised if the unit slips a bit.

Bengals DT Geno Atkins left tonight's game at Miami in the 1st half with a right knee injury.  NFL Network reports that his return is questionable.  That not only takes a notable IDP off the field but robs the Cincinnati defense of 1 of the league's best interior pass-rushers.

Bengals LBs Rey Maualuga and Michael Boley are both inactive for tonight's game against the Dolphins.  Maualuga is dealing with an MCL sprain that ESPN's Adam Schefter reported would cost him at least 3 weeks.  Cincinnati refused to declare him out before tonight, though.  Boley dealt with a hamstring issue all week.

8:18pm EDT 10/27/13

Bengals MLB Rey Maualuga left Sunday's win over the Jets early on a cart.  He injured his left knee in a 1st-half collision with RB Chris Ivory and came away with a concussion as well, according to the team website.  Recent free agent addition Michael Boley entered and would likely start with Maualuga out.  OLB Vontaze Burfict could slide to the middle to take over for Maualuga.

Bengals DE Michael Johnson is active today against the Bills.  He missed Week 5 with a concussion but got cleared to return late this week.  He's still not a strong IDP option against Buffalo LT Cordy Glenn.

Bengals DE Michael Johnson returned for a full practice Friday after missing Week 5 with a concussion.  Johnson remains questionable on the Week 6 injury report, and HC Marvin Lewis would only call his outlook "mostly sunny" for Sunday.  We expect Johnson to return against Buffalo, but LT Cordy Glenn will present a tough matchup if he does.
