Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb is out of practice this week because of an ankle injury. “He tweaked his ankle last week in practice; still bothering him a little bit so we’re going to give him this week to get it right,” HC Vic Fangio said Wednesday, via Aric DiLalla of the team website. It's reportedly not the ankle that Chubb had surgery on this offseason. We'll see if he returns to practice next week, ahead of the regular-season opener.

Broncos HC Vic Fangio said he expects RB Melvin Gordon, WR Courtland Sutton and OLB Von Miller to play in the team's 3rd -- and final -- preseason game. That'll be a good chance for us to gauge Gordon's usage vs. Javonte Williams', as well as Sutton's fitness as he works back from the 2020 ACL tear. It also indicates Denver will treat that 3rd preseason game as a dress rehearsal for the regular season. Don't be surprised if we also get the Week 1 starter at QB announced ahead of that Saturday contest against the Rams.

Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb had a "minor ankle procedure" last week on the joint that cost him the final 2 games of last season, according to Mike Klis of 9News. The issue will keep Chubb out through the rest of offseason workouts, but he's expected to be ready for the start of training camp. We'll keep an eye on the situation through the summer. Chubb rebounded last season from a 2019 ACL tear to post 19 QB hits, tied for 19th in the league.

The Broncos have selected Alabama CB Patrick Surtain II with the 9th pick of the 2021 NFL Draft. A top-10 recruit nationally in the 2018 class, Surtain started 12 of 15 games as a true freshman -- plus 25 more over the next 2 seasons. He compiled 24 passes defensed, 4 INTs and 4 forced fumbles for the Tide. Surtain might have to open as the 3rd corner in Denver, after the Broncos signed Ronald Darby and traded for Kyle Fuller this offseason.

The Broncos are exercising the $7 million guarantee option on the 2021 salary for OLB Von Miller, according to Mike Klis of 9News. That keeps Miller around for the coming season. It's noteworthy because Miller's $18 million salary for 2021 led to talk of Denver potentially cutting him. The 2 sides reportedly negotiated in an attempt to lower his cap number, but no revision was made. Miller lost all of last season with an ankle injury. The Broncos keeping him around at the big salary for what will be his age-32 season indicates they expect Miller to be back to familiar form.

The Broncos are signing CB Ronald Darby to a 3-year, $30 million deal with $19.5 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Darby enjoyed a 2020 rebound in Washington after 3 injury-marred seasons in Philadelphia. Darby missed 20 of a possible 48 regular-season games over that span. Last year, he ranked 5th in the league in passes defensed, and Pro Football Focus graded him top-15 among CBs. Darby figures to land in draftable range in our 2021 IDP rankings as well.

The Broncos have applied the franchise tag to S Justin Simmons. The 27-year-old has spent all 5 of his seasons in Denver, since arriving as a 3rd-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He has spent the past 4 as a full-time starter, topping 90 tackles each of the past 3 years and collecting 12 INTs over that span. Simmons has finished each of the past 2 seasons among the top 12 fantasy DBs. Expect him to land around there in our 2021 IDP rankings.

Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb (ankle) is inactive for today's game against the Raiders. That should mean another start for Jeremiah Attaochu in his place.

Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Raiders. He put in limited practices Thursday and Friday after missing Wednesday's workout and last week's game. We'll see about Chubb's status Sunday afternoon.

The Broncos have downgraded OLB Bradley Chubb (ankle) to out for today's game against the Chargers. That leaves Jeremiah Attaochu starting in his place -- a downgrade for an already exploitable Denver defense.

Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Chargers. He put in only a limited Friday practice after missing workouts the previous 2 days and makes for a risky IDP option even if active. We'll check Chubb's status Sunday.

Broncos OLB Bradley Chubb sustained an ankle injury in Saturday's loss to the Bills. We haven't seen any details on the issue since, which might mean it's minor. We'll see about his status as the practice week gets going ahead of Sunday's game against the Chargers.

Broncos CB Bryce Callahan (foot) is active for today's game against the Saints.

Broncos CB Bryce Callahan (illness) is active for today's game against the Dolphins. Use him as you normally would in IDP lineups.

Broncos CB Bryce Callahan (ankle) is inactive for today's game against the Falcons. That leaves Denver without its top 2 corners, with A.J. Bouye previously ruled out. Julio Jones looks set up to run wild in Week 9, while Christian Blake and Russell Gage also face favorable situations. On the IDP side, Broncos rookie CB Michael Ojemudia carries big tackle upside.

The Broncos have ruled CB A.J. Bouye (concussion) out for Sunday's game against the Falcons. CB Bryce Callahan (ankle) is questionable. If Callahan can't go, Denver would be missing its top 2 corners. That could only help Falcons QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones.

Broncos DE Jurrell Casey suffered a torn biceps in Sunday's loss to the Buccaneers. That likely ends his season. DeMarcus Walker looks like the next man up on the depth chart for a Denver defense that no longer looks like a tough matchup in any area.
