Titans RB DeMarco Murray is "day-to-day" with the hamstring injury that knocked him out of Sunday's win over the Jaguars, HC Mike Mularkey said Monday. Mularkey also said that he still views Murray as the starting RB. We're not reading much into that. Murray has been bothered by this hammy since August and is averaging just 3.3 yards per carry through 2 games. Derrick Henry simply looks like the better RB at this point. We're expecting a full-blown committee in Week 3 -- assuming Murray plays.

Titans RB DeMarco Murray was bothered by a “slight” hamstring issue during Sunday’s win over the Jaguars, HC Mike Mularkey said. Murray carried just once for no gain in the 2nd half. Derrick Henry capitalized on the opportunity by ripping off 87 yards and a score on 12 carries over the final 30 minutes. We’re not sure what the bigger concern is for Murray at this point: the hamstring or Henry.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey said Thursday that RB DeMarco Murray is dealing with a hamstring injury. He didn't practice but was out on the field in uniform, according to insider Jim Wyatt. That suggests a minor issue, but we'll keep a close eye on this one. Derrick Henry would boast RB1 upside if Murray misses any time this season.

We passed along earlier this week HC Mike Mularkey's hint that Titans RB DeMarco Murray might draw even more pass targets in 2017. Well, Mularkey has also answered the question of whether Murray will remain the workhorse he was in 2016. “Derrick [Henry] is an important part of our offense,’’ Mularkey said, via the team’s website. “Obviously DeMarco Murray is the guy. He has shown he is the guy and he will continue to be that guy. But I will say this: Each week we put a different game plan together. We spend a lot of hours preparing to play the opponent. And Derrick, and as you saw, some games he was more involved than others. And a lot is based on how we are going to attack the opponent." We'd bet on Henry being at least a bit more involved on offense on a regular basis this season. But don't draft him like he's ready to take Murray's job -- or even half of it -- especially in early drafting. It might take a Murray injury or big drop-off in performance come summer to give Henry such an opportunity. Of course, another season as 2nd fiddle could make Henry a solid "buy" candidate in dynasty formats.

Titans RB DeMarco Murray rushed for 91 yards and a TD on 21 carries in Sunday's win over the Broncos. His 4.4 yards per rush beat rookie Derrick Henry's rushing average by nearly 1 full yard, as Henry garnered 12 attempts for 42 yards. Murray caught neither of the 2 pass targets that came his way, but QB Marcus Mariota completed only 6 throws all day against the stifling Denver pass defense. Murray stays locked in as a fantasy RB1.

After sitting out on Wednesday and Thursday, Titans RB Derrick Henry (calf) put in a full practice on Friday. “I am ready," he said afterward. “It felt good." The rookie will play against the Packers this weekend but doesn't figure to see more than a handful of touches behind DeMarco Murray.

Titans RB Derrick Henry has been diagnosed with a strained calf, HC Mike Mularkey announced Monday. “That is kind of an injury where a lot of it is pain tolerance," Mularkey added. "It could be a day, it could be up to a couple of weeks." We’ll keep an eye on Henry throughout the week, but he shouldn't be in your Week 10 fantasy plans. Antonio Andrews will serve as Tennessee's #2 RB if Henry misses more time.

Titans RB Derrick Henry injured his calf in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Chargers. He's questionable to return. We'll update his status when we learn more.

Titans RB DeMarco Murray (toe) is not listed on the team’s final injury report. He practiced all week, including full workouts on Thursday and Friday. We might see a bit more Derrick Henry this weekend, but Murray remains a good bet for 20+ total touches.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey told The Tennessean that he wants to get RB Derrick Henry "more involved" on offense, though he says it'll depend on game flow. Henry carried a season-high 16 times in last Thursday's dominating win over Jacksonville, when DeMarco Murray spent the 2nd half dealing with a toe injury. Murray was limited Wednesday, but the fact that he's participating -- and played at all in the 2nd half of last week's blowout -- suggests Murray will be healthy enough for a normal workload Sunday. San Diego, however, might present a good matchup for a run-heavy approach. The Chargers lost ILBs Jatavis Brown and Denzel Perryman to injury at Denver last week. They're down to rookie Joshua Perry and Korey Toomer, who began the year on Oakland's practice squad, at the position. Henry presents some deep upside for fantasy owners dealing with the second 6-team bye. He's also a good stash in general and would likely become a weekly starter if Murray went down.

An MRI on Titans RB DeMarco Murray's toe came back clean, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan. Murray is considered "day to day." He returned to Thursday night's game against the Jaguars and should be fine for Week 9 vs. San Diego. Murray owners would do well to secure Derrick Henry as a handcuff, though. The rookie ripped off 97 yards and a score on 20 touches in Thursday's win.

Titans HC Mike Mularkey clarified his plans for the backfield on Wednesday. “It’s DeMarco, and when DeMarco needs a blow it will be Derrick,’’ Mularkey said via TitansOnline.com. “If I feel like we need a change of pace it will be Derrick, but right now there is no set (number of carries). They are both going to get opportunities for sure.” While Murray enters Week 1 as the starter, there’s room for both backs to earn fantasy value. The Titans profile as a run-heavy offense.

The Titans have released RB Dexter McCluster, according to NFL Network's Rand Getlin. It's a slight surprise because McCluster was expected to have a role on passing downs. His departure gives RB DeMarco Murray's receiving projection a slight uptick. RB Derrick Henry could also see a bit more work in that facet.

According to Titans insider Jim Wyatt, RB Derrick Henry “continues to catch the ball well out of the backfield.” HC Mike Mularkey, meanwhile, offered a critique of Henry’s game. “I will say this about Derrick,’’ Mularkey said. “I don't think he's a fast starter. I've got to talk to him about that tempo period because we've got a bunch of guys up front that are creating things for him and he's not hitting it like I'd like to see him hit it. Later in the practice—I hope that's not the case in games. We need him to be full-strength. As soon as we call his number, he needs to hit things better.” This is hardly a surprise given Henry’s massive size, but it certainly bears watching in preseason action.

Titans RB DeMarco Murray is "expected to get the bulk of the carries" this season, per insider Jim Wyatt. The team "loves how he’s handled himself over the last few months" and "the expectation is he'll return to form in 2016." Murray is just a couple of years removed from an epic 1,845-yard season. But he looked gassed in Philadelphia last year and will need to hold off 2nd-round rookie RB Derrick Henry. Wyatt concedes that "Henry could earn more opportunities if he’s productive with his chances." Tennessee's backfield will be worth monitoring closely throughout the rest of the summer. Murray is going in the early 6th round of recent MFL10s, while Henry is lasting until the 10th.

RB DeMarco Murray believes he's a better fit with the Titans than he was with the Eagles last year. "It’s strictly downhill and that’s what I’ve been accustomed to my entire life," he said of HC Mike Mularkey's scheme. "Nothing against last year or what happened, it just didn’t work out, but I’m very excited about this upcoming season and looking forward to it.” Murray never looked comfy in Chip Kelly's offense last year. It remains to be seen, though, how much gas is left in Murray's tank. He also needs to contend with 2nd-round rookie Derrick Henry. We're not particularly interested in Murray even at his current 6th-round price tag.

Pass-catching ability is 1 of the biggest question marks about Titans rookie RB Derrick Henry.  He totaled just 17 grabs in 3 seasons at Alabama.  But he's impressed his HC in that facet this spring.  “He’s beaten guys that were cover guys,’’ Mike Mularkey said of Henry's work in OTAs. “So I have been very impressed with him.  I am not sure why they did or didn’t do it (at Alabama). They were pretty happy with just handing it to him to get the production. But he certainly has some good hands. … And he is a big body to get the ball to.”  Other Alabama RBs, such as Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon, have proven to be better receivers than they were allowed to show in college.  We're not betting on Henry emerging as a high-end pass-catcher -- and we're not overrating his work in OTAs.  But he just needs to be serviceable enough in the passing game to stay on the field for all 3 downs.

Titans OC Terry Robiskie threw out the "hot hand" moniker when discussing the carry split in his backfield.  “I believe in just doing whatever we have to do, whatever is necessary to win the game," Robiskie said. “Obviously we’ll have it situated going into the game, and figuring, ‘Hey, we want to go this way or go that way.’ If we get to going in the game and some guy gets the hot hand and that’s what it takes to win the game then that is what we are going to do."  This isn't a major surprise.  Tennessee becomes the 21st team, by our estimation, to go with the "hot hand" approach.  DeMarco Murray still figures to get the 1st crack at establishing himself, but rookie Derrick Henry will also get a shot.  We're not particularly interested in either guy at ADP right now -- Murray in Round 5, Henry in Round 9.

The Titans selected RB Derrick Henry with the 45th pick of the 2016 NFL Draft. Henry puts massive checks in the measurable and production boxes. After sharing the backfield with (and outproducing) T.J. Yeldon in 2014, Henry busted out as a true junior this past season. He toted the rock 395 times for 2,219 yards (5.6 YPC) and 28 TDs. All 3 of those marks rank among the top 8 in NCAA history. Henry checked into the Combine at 6’3, 247 pounds and ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash. He also posted strong marks in the vertical, broad and 60-yard shuttle. It earned him a SPARQ score in the 82nd percentile at his position — best among the top RBs in this draft class. The knocks against Henry are a lack of change-of-direction and pass-catching ability. He’s a downhill runner who needs a clear runway to get going. And he totaled just 17 receptions over 3 college seasons, including 11 as the clear starter this past year. Henry will spend 2016 as DeMarco Murray’s backup but could take over as the starter as early as 2017. Murray turned 28 this past February.
