The Cleveland Browns selected Arkansas QB Taylen Green in Round 6 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Green started for two years at Boise State before transferring to Arkansas for his final two seasons. He combined for 5,868 passing yards with 34 passing TDs and 20 INTs over those two years. Green also added 1,379 rushing yards and 16 rushing TDs. Green’s game was bult on his elite athleticism. He ran a 4.36 40 with a 43.50” Vertical and 11’02” Broad Jump at 6’5 3/4 and 227 pounds. Among the 15 QBs invited to the NFL Combine, Green ranked 15th in 2025 adjusted completion percentage (71.3%), and sixth in aDOT (9.5). He ranked 12th in 2025 Big Time Throw rate (3.2%) and second in rushing yards per game when removing sacks (82.8). He is currently 23 years old.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said QB Deshaun Watson is in “great shape” and will get a clean slate to compete for the starting job. Watson missed the entire 2025 season after tearing his Achilles in October 2024 and undergoing a second surgery in January 2025. Still, Haslam noted that Watson "threw the ball well” late last season despite remaining on the PUP list.
The Browns haven't signed or traded for a QB this offseason. As a result, Zac Jackson of The Athletic belives "it's fair to assume that [Shedeur] Sanders will get at least some runway" to be QB1.
New Browns HC Todd Monken says he's "intrigued" by a QB already on the Cleveland roster ... and it's not a guy who played for the team in 2025. The coach used that description for Deshaun Watson at his opening news conference. And Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot reports that Monken and Watson are "eager" to work together. The QB last played in Week 7 of 2024, when a torn Achilles' tendon ended his season. Watson spent most of this past season still working back from the injury, gaining clearance for football activity in November.
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski says QB Shedeur Sanders will start for the rest of the season.
The Browns and QB Joe Flacco agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal, his agent tells ESPN's Adam Schefter. Flacco can earn as much as $13 million with incentives. Flacco returns to Cleveland, where he won Comeback Player of the Year in 2023. He averaged 323 yards across five games that year, tossing 13 TDs vs. eight INTs in a pass-heavy attack. Flacco made six starts with seven total appearances for the Colts last season, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt with 12 TDs and seven INTs. He turned 40 in January.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson had a second tear of his Achilles and underwent surgery yesterday. With only eight months until the start of the 2025 season, Watson's availability for 2025 is now in jeopardy.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson had a setback in his recovery from his torn Achilles, GM Andrew Berry revealed Monday. "We don’t have all the details yet, but it will obviously extend the recovery process for him," Berry said. He added that Watson's availability for the start of the 2025 season is uncertain. Cleveland recently restructured Watson's deal, which will keep him with the team next season. But expect the Browns to add competition via free agency and/or the rookie class. They hold the second overall pick in this spring's draft.
The Browns have fired OC Ken Dorsey, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Cleveland ranks 28th in yards and dead last in points through 17 weeks. Despite shoddy QB play, the Browns lead the league in pass attempts and pass rate. We'll see if HC Kevin Stefanski keeps his job for 2025.
The Browns and QB Deshaun Watson agreed to a restructured contract that will have him back with the team in 2025. Watson did not give up any of his remaining $92 million guaranteed, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and didn't have his 2025 cap hit adjusted. But the new deal softens Watson's cap hits beyond next season, particularly starting in 2027. In other words, the Browns know they're stuck with Watson in 2025 and likely 2026 but are already putting in place a plan to eventually move on. Rapoport adds that Cleveland is expected to bring in competition for Watson this offseason, with QB Kirk Cousins a potential candidate. Cousins played under Browns HC Kevin Stefanski for two seasons in Minnesota. A Watson/Cousins QB room would not inspire much confidence.
Additional testing has confirmed that Browns QB Deshaun Watson tore his right Achilles in the Week 7 loss to the Bengals. Watson's 2024 season is over, although he should have a good chance to be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign. QB Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles on October 29, 2023 and was ready in plenty of time for Week 1. Watson's game depends much more on mobility than Cousins', though. And, of course, it remains to be seen if Watson has a job waiting for him next year. He was one of the very worst QBs in the league this season, ranking 23rd in completion rate (63.4%), 31st in yards per attempt (5.3), and 21st in Pro Football Focus passing grade (63.4). Watson still has two years remaining on his fully guaranteed contract.
Browns HC Kevin Stefanski said after Sunday's loss to the Bengals that QB Deshaun Watson is believed to have a torn Achilles. We should get confirmation on Monday. A torn Achilles would end Watson's season and threaten his availability for the start of the 2025 campaign. Cleveland also lost QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson to a finger injury against Cincinnati, leaving QB Jameis Winston at the controls. Consider Winston the favorite to start next weekend's game vs. the Ravens.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson injured his right leg in the second quarter of Sunday's game vs. the Bengals. It's Dorian Thompson-Robinson -- not Jameis Winston -- active as Cleveland's backup today. We'll update Watson's status when we know more.
Update: Watson has been ruled out with an Achilles. This has the look of a season-ending injury, but we'll update Watson's status when we know more.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson was less terrible than previous weeks in Sunday's loss to the Eagles but continued his run of lackluster production. He went a solid 16-of-23 passing (69.6% completions) at 7.3 yards per pass attempt. But his 168 passing yards marked a sixth straight game south of 200. And he boosted another struggling opponent pass rush.
Browns QB Deshaun Watson remained unwatchable in a Week 5 loss to Washington. The former Texan threw for only 125 yards and 1 TD on 15-of-28 passing.
