Patriots Draft RB Jamarion Miller in Round 7

The New England Patriots selected Alabama RB Jamarion Miller in Round 7 of the 2026 NFL Draft. Despite leading Alabama in rushing each of the past two seasons, he averaged just 48.8 yards per game in that span. Efficiency never spiked either, with 4.6 yards per carry as a junior and 3.9 as a senior. That’s underwhelming output for a top-5 RB recruit in the 2022 class, per 247Sports. Among the 20 RBs invited to the NFL Combine, Miller ranked ninth in 2025 rushing market share (44.1%), and 19th in yards after contact per attempt (2.45). He ranked 16th in 2025 missed tackles forced per attempt (0.17) and 14th in receiving yards per route run (0.75). He will turn 22 years old next week.

Reid on Isiah Pacheco: 'Most Guys Probably Wouldn't Have Come Back'

Chiefs HC Andy Reid told ESPN's Adam Teicher this week that he thinks RB Isiah Pacheco will "be even better this year" after a sluggish finish to 2024 following recovery from a broken leg. Pacheco suffered the injury in Week 2. He returned in Week 13 but averaged just 7.8 carries per game and 3.4 yards per rush from there through the playoffs. That included just 13 carries and 37 rushing yards (2.8 per carry) across three playoff contests.

        Chiefs Bring Back Kareem Hunt

The Chiefs are re-signing RB Kareem Hunt to a one-year deal. It has a base value of $1.5 million with another $1 million available in incentives, according to insider Jordan Schultz. It's a cheap contract for a 29-year-old who was forced into a significant role last season. Hunt joins Isiah Pacheco and Elijah Mitchell in Kansas City's backfield for now. The Chiefs are still a candidate to add to the depth chart in next month's draft.

Elijah Mitchell Signs With Chiefs on One-Year Deal

Former 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell has signed a one-year deal worth up to $3.5 million with the Kansas City Chiefs. Mitchell becomes the probable back-up to Isiah Pacheco with only he and Carson Steele currently under contract. It is potentially good news for Pacheco as the Chiefs may be looking more for insurance for him than replacing him as the starter.

Jordan Mason The 49ers' No. 2 RB?

ESPN's Nick Wagoner believes Jordan Mason is on his way to earning the 49ers' No. 2 RB job. "He's a much improved pass catcher and route runner and he's flashed some dynamic ability picking up the blitz," Wagoner writes. "Given the injuries elsewhere at the position, Mason is setting up to really solidify a spot behind CMC."

        Elijah Mitchell Out With Hamstring

49ers RB Elijah Mitchell has a hamstring strain and will miss about a week, per beat reporter David Lombardi. He’s already missed a couple of practices with the ailment. In a related move, San Francisco signed veteran RB Matt Breida on Tuesday. Breida managed just 2.7 yards per carry on 55 attempts for the Giants in 2023.

Christian McCaffrey won't play Week 18

49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (calf) will not play vs. the Rams this weekend, HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed Monday. Shanahan called McCaffrey's injury a "mild calf strain." It's unclear if CMC would be able to play if this game meant something to San Francisco, but he was never going to suit up with the NFC's No. 1 seed clinched. He'll get three total weeks to heal up before the 49ers' playoff opener. We'll see about the team's backfield plans this weekend. RBs Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason are on the active roster, with RB Ty Davis-Price on the practice squad.
