Shark Bites are the latest fantasy football news & NFL updates. Draft Sharks has been in business since 1999. And when we started, redraft was the dominant form of fantasy football. Check out what we've learned about this most basic form of fantasy football along the way.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow will miss the rest of the season with a torn ligament in his wrist that will require surgery, HC Zac Taylor announced Friday. It ends a frustrating season that saw Burrow battle through a calf injury for the first six weeks, get hot coming off the bye, and then suffer this wrist injury. We'll look for further details on Burrow's rehab plan and whether his 2024 season will be impacted. His absence the rest of this season leaves Cincinnati with QBs Jake Browning and A.J. McCarron (practice squad). Browning was abysmal in relief of Burrow in Baltimore on Thursday night, completing eight of 14 passes for 68 yards (4.9 YPA). It's about the biggest QB downgrade imaginable and awful news for Bengals pass catchers. The offense figures to lean more on the running game going forward, but we still wouldn't consider this an upgrade for RB Joe Mixon because the Bengals will struggle to sustain drives and score points under Browning.
Bengals HC Zac Taylor said after Thursday night's loss to the Ravens that QB Joe Burrow is believed to have a sprained right wrist. "Fell on it early in the game and then felt it on the touchdown pass," Taylor said. Burrow was spotted with a wrap on that wrist prior to Thursday's game but was not listed on the Week 11 injury report. He had a "multi-layered" wrap on the wrist after the game, according to ESPN's Ben Baby. Burrow is scheduled for an MRI on Monday, so we should get more details on the injury over the next 24 hours. Stay tuned. QB Jake Browning mustered just 68 yards on 8-of-14 passing (4.9 YPA) in relief of Burrow in Baltimore.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow hurt his right hand or elbow in the second quarter of Thursday night's game vs. the Ravens. The TV broadcast showed Burrow trying to throw on the sidelines but unable to grip the ball. He immediately headed back to the locker room. We'll update Burrow's status when we know more. QB Jake Browning is Cincinnati's backup.
Update: Burrow is officially questionable to return with a wrist injury.
Update: Burrow has been ruled out. He's on the sidelines without any protective gear on that right wrist.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins (hamstring) is out for Sunday's game vs. the Texans. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called Higgins "week-to-week" after hurting his hamstring in Wednesday's practice. We'll see if he can make it back for Week 11. WR Trenton Irwin filled in for Higgins back in Week 5, running a route on 91% of pass plays and posting an 8-60-0 line on 10 targets. We'd still consider Irwin a desperation fantasy play. WRs Ja'Marr Chase and Tyler Boyd should pick up more targets with Higgins out.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins is not expected to play vs. the Texans this weekend after hurting his hamstring in Wednesday's practice, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "He'll be evaluated on a week-to-week basis going forward," Rapoport adds. It's certainly possible that this turns into a multi-game absence, but Higgins is worth hanging on to on fantasy rosters for now. We'll see if WR Ja'Marr Chase (back) is able to play vs. Houston on Sunday. If not, Cincinnati would be down to WRs Tyler Boyd, Trenton Irwin, and Andrei Iosivas.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow completed 31 of 44 passes for 348 yards with 2 TDs in Week 9 vs. the Bills. It’s evident at this point that he’s over that right calf injury that slowed him down early in the year. Over the past four games, Burrow ranks fourth in passing yards per game (283.2), third in fantasy points per game (21.8), and first with 2.5 passing TDs per game. The former No. 1 overall pick can now be safely treated as a high-end QB1 regardless of matchup.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow threw almost as many TD passes as incompletions in Sunday's win over the 49ers. He went 28 of 32 for 283 yards and 3 TDs against a defense that entered the week ranked fifth in pass DVOA. His 134.8 passer rating marked a season high by a wide margin, as did Burrow's 43 rushing yards. The bye undoubtedly helped, even if only by allowing WR Tee Higgins (ribs) to get off the injury report. Burrow and his 7.1% TD rate over the past three games looks like a good weekly bet going forward. Week 9 holds a potential shootout at home vs. Buffalo.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow completed 24 of 35 attempts for 185 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT against Seattle. The Bengals ran only 53 plays in this one, but Burrow clearly wasn’t at his best. He at least salvaged his day with first-half scores to Tyler Boyd (8 yards) and Andrei Iosivas (3 yards). Burrow enters a Week 7 bye before a tough road date at San Francisco.
Looks like Bengals QB Joe Burrow’s calf might finally be feeling better. On Sunday, Burrow completed 36 of 46 attempts for 317 passing yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT vs. the Cardinals. Fantasy managers in 1QB leagues who opted to bench him might be annoyed, but at least there’s some hope that the old Burrow is back now. He’ll have a chance to build upon this performance in Week 6 vs. the Seahawks.
Bengals WR Tee Higgins (rib) is inactive for today’s game vs. the Cardinals. He returned to a limited practice on Friday, which seemingly gives him a chance to return for Week 6. Tyler Boyd will serve as Cincinnati’s No. 2 WR today but is just a WR4 in fantasy lineups in a struggling Bengals offense.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow said Wednesday that last week was the best his calf has felt coming out of a game this season. "So I'm optimistic," Burrow added. Of course, he said that he avoided a setback in Week 3 -- and then proceeded to lay an egg vs. the Titans in Week 4. Burrow is tough to trust as a QB1 right now, even in Sunday's plus matchup vs. the Cardinals.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow struggled again in Week 4, completing 20 of 30 attempts for only 165 passing yards with no TDs or INTs. This offense struggled to get much of anything going in their loss vs. the Titans. Thus far into the season, the Bengals are one of two remaining teams who have yet to score a TD in the first half of a game. It’s fair to wonder at this point if fantasy managers can even trust Burrow in 1QB leagues until he’s deemed fully healthy and his calf injury is behind him. Next week, they’ll have a chance to turn things around against the Cardinals.
Bengals QB Joe Burrow (calf) was a full participant in practice all week and isn't listed on the final injury report for Sunday's game vs. the Titans. He's seemingly healthier this week than last and gets one of the league's best passing matchups. There's slump-busting potential for Burrow this week.
