Ravens QB Joe Flacco tore his ACL in Sunday's win over the Rams, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Flacco might also have a torn MCL. Either way, he's done for the season and isn't a lock to be ready for the start of the 2016 campaign. Matt Schaub will take over as Baltimore's starting QB the rest of this season. The 34-year-old has devolved into an INT machine. Schaub was picked off 14 times in 10 games with the Texans in 2013, tossed 2 INTs in 10 pass attempts for the Raiders last year and 2 more on 50 attempts this preseason. Schaub won't be a fantasy option and is a downgrade for Baltimore's passing game.
The Ravens have signed QB Matt Schaub. Turning 34 in June, Schaub has tossed 10 TDs and 16 INTs in 11 appearances over the past 2 seasons. He's well past his prime and will obviously be a pure backup in Baltimore. QB Joe Flacco has yet to miss a game through 7 NFL seasons.
The Ravens have hired Marc Trestman as OC. He'll replace Gary Kubiak, who left to become HC of the Broncos. Trestman, of course, spent the past 2 seasons as the Bears HC. His offense was electric in year 1, finishing 8th in total yards and 2nd in points scored. But the unit plummeted to 21st in yards and 23rd in points this past season. Both of Trestman's offenses leaned toward the pass, which should be good news for QB Joe Flacco. He'll have a big adjustment to make from Kubiak to Trestman's system, though.
Ravens QB Joe Flacco "loves" OC Gary Kubiak's offense. Sports Illustrated's Don Banks has been at Ravens camp the past few days and says, "the fit between Kubiak and Flacco has been superb ... Kubiak’s offense is ideal for the talent on hand in Baltimore, plays to Flacco’s strengths and the quarterback raves about it being simple to master." Flacco should certainly be better this year than he was last, when he set 5-year lows in yards per attempt (6.4) and TDs (19). We're still not expecting him to ascend beyond mid-level QB2 range, but his comfort in the offense is good news for WR Torrey Smith and TE Dennis Pitta.
Ravens QB Joe Flacco refeused to blame his hurting knee for any part of Sunday's blowout loss to the Patriots. He also said the joint is getting better. “[It was] a little sore yesterday and today, but it feels a lot better,” Flacco said Tuesday, per The Carroll County Times. A healthier knee would obviously only help in Sunday's clash with the Bengals for a playoff berth, but Flacco shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy football lineup.
As expected, Ravens QB Joe Flacco (knee) is active and starting against the Patriots today. He’s just a QB2 in fantasy, especially at less than 100%.
The forecast for today's Patriots-Ravens game calls for a 50% chance of rain and thunderstorms with winds at 10-12 mph. That figures to make deep passing more difficult, which is bad news for WR Torrey Smith. New England's short passing game should be fine.
NFL insider Adam Caplan hears that Ravens QB Joe Flacco's sprained left knee is "a little more sore than first thought." He went through movement and flexibility tests with trainers today. Flacco will play in a huge game against the Patriots tomorrow, but he won't be at 100%. Despite an impressive track record against New England, Flacco can't be trusted in standard, 1-QB fantasy leagues.
Ravens
QB Joe Flacco (knee) is listed as questionable but is fully expected to play
against the Patriots on Sunday. He’ll
wear a brace on that sprained knee, but Flacco doesn’t rely on mobility, so it
shouldn’t significantly impact his performance.
Still, Flacco remains just a QB2 in fantasy. He sits just 19th among QBs in fantasy
points.
An MRI on Ravens QB Joe Flacco's left knee revealed a "mild" MCL sprain, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Flacco wore a brace for Wednesday's practice and is expected to wear it for this weekend's game against the Patriots. It shouldn't significantly impact his performance, but it's just another reason to avoid Flacco outside of 2-QB fantasy leagues. He sits just 19th among QBs in fantasy points.
Ravens QB Joe Flacco was wearing a brace on his left leg for Wednesday's practice. He took a hit straight to the knee in Monday night's game against the Lions but didn't miss any snaps and looked no worse for the wear. Flacco doesn't rely on mobility, so we're not expecting it to be an issue against the Patriots this weekend. He remains just a QB2 in fantasy, though.
Ravens QB Joe Flacco took a scary (and illegal) hit to his left knee from Lions LB DeAndre Levy in the 4th quarter of Monday night's game. Flacco had the knee heavily taped on the sidelines but didn't miss any snaps. He walked with a "slight limp" after the game, per insider Jeff Zrebiec, but Flacco didn't sound concerned. “It wasn’t really bothering me once the initial hit,” he said. “I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong.” We'll keep an eye on the situation, but Flacco should be ready for a huge Week 16 game against the Patriots. He's started all 107 games in his NFL career.
The forecast for today's Jets-Ravens game is 31 degrees, 19 mph winds and a chance of snow showers. The wind figures to make downfield passing a bit tougher, which could be bad news for QB Joe Flacco and WR Torrey Smith. Flacco isn't a recommended fantasy starter today. We still like Smith as a WR2 against a burnable Jets secondary. New York's passing game is best off avoided in fantasy. Expect a big workload for RB Chris Ivory.
The forecast for today's Ravens-Bears game calls for a 70% chance of rain with 25-35 mph winds. "Damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado with some storms," the weather.com forecast says. The passing games will definitely be impacted. Expect a run-heavy game plan from both teams and shorts throws when they do take to the air. We just adjusted our projections for this game. Storms are also expected for the Jets-Bills, Lions-Steelers and Browns-Bengals games, but the conditions won't be bad enough to impact our rankings. You can use the weather as a tiebreaker if you're deciding between 2 players.
The Ravens have acquired LT Eugene Monroe from the Jaguars in exchange for draft picks. The 8th overall pick of the 2009 draft was Pro Football Focus' 15th-ranked OT last year, receiving positive grades in run and pass-blocking. Monroe should be a significant upgrade over an aging Bryant McKinnie. Things are only going to get uglier in Jacksonville.
What did you do with your Friday? Ravens QB Joe Flacco spent it getting the richest contract in NFL history. Flacco's deal will reportedly exceed Drew Brees' by some slight amount. Of course, it's usually tough to tell how much money a player will actually make based on the initial reports of his contract. QBs tend do play out their lucrative deals, though. So Flacco becomes the highest-paid player in league history. We knew a ridiculous contract was on the way after his stellar playoff performance piloted the franchise to its 2nd Super Bowl title. The money certainly doesn't change the fact that Flacco is a backup-level fantasy football QB.
Joe Flacco was named MVP of Super Bowl XLVII. He was nearly flawless, completing 22 of 33 passes for 287 yards with 3 TDs and 0 INTs. He opened the scoring on Baltimore's first offensive possession with a 13-yard strike to Anquan Boldin. The next 2 TDs came in the 2nd quarter -- a short one to Dennis Pitta and a bomb to Jacoby Jones. Flacco finishes the postseason with 1,140 yards, 11 TDs, and 0 INTs across 4 games. The TD-to-INT ratio is tied with Joe Montana for best in playoff history. A free-agent this offseason, Flacco earned himself a giant wad of cash over the past month. He and the Ravens will begin negotiating a long-term deal, with Flacco looking to become one of the top 3 highest-paid QBs in the league. He'll be franchise-tagged if a deal isn't reached before the market opens. We'll see if Flacco can carry this playoff success over to the regular season. He's never finished better than 12th among QBs in fantasy points.
Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome hinted that he's prepared to slap the franchise tag on QB Joe Flacco if the two sides can't agree to a long-term deal before free-agency opens in March. "We'll be able to get that thing done," Newsome said of Flacco's new contract. "But one thing we do know, he'll be playing football for us next year. And sometimes that's all you can look forward to is just next year." Contract negotiations here will be interesting. Flacco is reportedly looking for something in the neighborhood of $20 million per year. That's elite QB money. And while Flacco has been elite in the playoffs, he's been good-but-not-great in the regular season. In the end, we're expecting him to land a salary in the $17-18 million range. The franchise tag would pay him around $14.6 million in 2013. Either way, Flacco will be back with the Ravens.
The Ravens have fired OC Cam Cameron. It's strange timing 14 weeks into the season and with the team sitting at 9-4. But the Ravens rank a mediocre 18th in total offense; they've struggled to score points on the road; and QB Joe Flacco had reportedly grown frustrated with the move away from the no-huddle. QBs coach (and former Colts HC) Jim Caldwell will take over as Baltimore's OC. We'll see how much freedom he gives Flacco, but we're expecting RB Ray Rice to be the biggest beneficiary here.
