The Eagles released RB Jordan Howard. The 26-year-old has been a major disappointment since running for over 1,100 yards in each of his first 2 NFL seasons. Still, the move is a bit surprising since Philadelphia already cut ties with RB Kerryon Johnson. This leaves Miles Sanders, Boston Scott and Kenneth Gainwell as the only RBs on the roster. Sanders should dominate carries in this backfield, with Scott and Gainwell likely stealing passing-down work.

The Eagles waived RB Kerryon Johnson. The former Lion recently suffered a knee injury that's believed to be a sprain. For now, Philly will move forward with Boston Scott, Kenneth Gainwell and Jordan Howard behind Miles Sanders.

Eagles RB Kerryon Johnson is week to week with a knee injury, according to NBC Philly's Dave Zangaro. Johnson already seemed to be behind RB Jordan Howard on the depth chart -- and this injury might kill his chances of making the final roster. Johnson is off the fantasy radar right now.

The Eagles re-signed RB Jordan Howard to a 1-year deal. Howard hooked up with the Eagles last November after being dumped by the Dolphins but carried just 7 times in 2 appearances. He's a good bet to make the team with how the Eagles' backfield currently sits. But he'd need a Miles Sanders injury to sniff fantasy value.

Eagles RB Jordan Howard has been elevated from the practice squad to the active roster. It looks like he'll play against the Packers on Sunday. Howard isn't a fantasy option, but we're hoping he doesn't vulture goal-line work from RB Miles Sanders.

The Eagles have promoted RB Jordan Howard to the active roster. Any carries the Eagles take from Miles Sanders to give to Howard will be a loss. We're not expecting it to be many. Howard can be left on fantasy waiver wires.

The Eagles have signed RB Jordan Howard to their practice squad. Howard flamed out quickly in Miami and is a long shot for any fantasy value in Philadelphia. You can continue to ignore him.

The Dolphins have released RB Jordan Howard. He was a healthy scratch for 4 of Miami's last 5 games and finishes his Dolphins career with 1.2 yards per carry on 28 attempts. Miami is now down to RBs Salvon Ahmed, DeAndre Washington, Patrick Laird, Matt Breida and Myles Gaskin, who's out at least 1 more game. Ahmed has operated as the lead back for the past 2 weeks.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport tweets that Dolphins RB Matt Breida (hamstring) "may be a week away from going." It sounds like we should expect him to miss today's game against the Chargers. That'd leave Miami's backfield to DeAndre Washington, Salvon Ahmed, Jordan Howard and Patrick Laird. It's still a situation to avoid in fantasy.

Dolphins RB Matt Breida missed Wednesday's practice with a hamstring injury. HC Brian Flores only said Thursday that Breida "has a chance" to play against the Cardinals this weekend. With RB Myles Gaskin (knee) on IR, Breida's absence would leave Miami down to RBs Jordan Howard, Patrick Laird and newly acquired DeAndre Washington.

Dolphins RB Myles Gaskin is expected to miss the next 3 weeks with a sprained MCL, according to The Miami Herald's Barry Jackson. The Dolphins' trade for RB DeAndre Washington today now makes more sense. Washington will join Matt Breida and Jordan Howard in the backfield while Gaskin is out. We're likely looking at a committee here, with Howard and Breida splitting early-down work and Breida and Washington vying for passing-down duties. It's a situation to avoid in Week 9 fantasy lineups.

Dolphins RB Jordan Howard is a healthy scratch for today's game against the 49ers. The free-agent addition averaged .8 yards on 14 attempts over the first 4 weeks. Miami will roll with RBs Myles Gaskin and Matt Breida.

ESPN Dolphins beat writer Cameron Wolfe has an interesting "early projection" for Miami's new backfield: "[Jordan Howard is] a true workhorse who fits well in the Dolphins' power scheme. Don't be surprised if Howard comes close to doubling up [Matt] Breida in carries, but Breida's value will come in the passing game, where he should receive most of the touches and increased playing time when Miami is trailing." Wolfe's opinion is worth noting, but this reads as just that rather than a report on the team's usage plans. Frankly, we'd be shocked if Howard comes anywhere close to doubling Breida's carry count -- as you can see in our 2020 RB rankings. But we agree with the expectation that Howard leads the team in carries while Breida operates as the lead back in the passing game.

The 49ers have traded RB Matt Breida to the Dolphins in exchange for a 5th-round pick. Breida has been excellent for the 49ers over the past 3 seasons, averaging 5.0 yards per carry and 8.4 yards per catch. This past year, he ranked 21st in Pro Football Focus' rushing grades among 45 RBs with 100+ carries. Breida was a victim of the numbers game in a packed 49ers backfield but will find plenty of opportunity in Miami, where Jordan Howard resides atop the depth chart. Expect some sort of committee attack in 2020, but Breida's explosiveness and pass-catching ability might make him the more valuable fantasy asset.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Dolphins have agreed to a 2-year, $10 million deal with RB Jordan Howard. He instantly becomes the top RB on a team that only saw QB Ryan Fitzpatrick and RB Mark Walton crack 200 yards on the ground in 2019. We'd be surprised, though, if Miami is done making offseason changes to that backfield.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero calls Eagles RB Miles Sanders' (ankle) status "TBD" for Sunday's Wild Card game against the Seahawks. The rookie is scheduled for an MRI on his sprained ankle, so we should have a better idea of his status within the next 24 hours. If Sanders can't play vs. Seattle, Boston Scott would be the best bet for touches in Philadelphia's backfield, ahead of Jordan Howard.

Eagles RB Miles Sanders suffered a left ankle injury in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Giants and is officially questionable to return. The rookie's absence leaves Philly with RBs Boston Scott and Jordan Howard, who just returned from his shoulder injury.

Update: Sanders has been ruled out.
