The Eagles have traded for RB Jordan Howard, giving a conditional 6th-round pick that could become a 5th-rounder, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. So even the worst-case scenario here for Philadelphia would mean giving a pick in the round in which Chicago drafted Howard. The 24-year-old -- until November -- gives the Eagles a younger player to fulfill a role likely similar to what LeGarrette Blount and Jay Ajayi played the past couple of years. At the very least, Howard looks like Philly's best bet near the goal line. We'll see if the Eagles add anything else to the position in the NFL Draft. In Chicago, meanwhile, RB Mike Davis appears ready to take over Howard's vacated role and looks like an option late in the single-digit rounds of best-ball drafts.

The Bears have added free-agent RB Mike Davis. The former Seahawk was sneaky-good last year, averaging 4.6 yards per carry on 112 attempts and posting a 34-214-1 receiving line. Pro Football Focus graded him 25th among 62 RBs -- notably 12 spots ahead of new teammate Jordan Howard. Howard has been the subject of trade whispers, although we're not sure Davis' addition is a precursor. We'll see.

Update: Davis' deal is for 2 years and $6 million with a max value of $7 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

That means absolutely nothing other than Carson being on the field for Seattle's first offensive snap. But Carson was operating as the clear lead ball-carrier before missing most of Week 9 and all of Week 10 with a hip injury. Consider him the best bet for carries on Thursday night, but RBs Mike Davis and Rashaad Penny also figure to remain plenty involved.

The Seahawks selected San Diego State RB Rashaad Penny with the 27th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft. Wow — this is the 1st real shocker of the night. Not only did Seattle use a 1st-rounder on Penny, but they selected him ahead of Derrius Guice, Nick Chubb and Sony Michel. Penny had a massive 2017 campaign, racking up 2,248 yards and 23 TDs on a 7.8 yards-per-carry average. That followed 7.5 yards per carry on 136 totes playing behind Donnel Pumphrey in 2016. The knocks against Penny are in the passing game. He totaled just 42 catches over the past 3 years (including 19 last year) and struggles in pass protection. The 1st-round investment likely means Seattle views Penny as a 3-down back, though. And he doesn't have much competition in a backfield that includes only Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise, Mike Davis and J.D. McKissic.

He flashed a bit among 3 games of 15+ carries last year but should face plenty of competition for touches this season. That should include a healthier C.J. Prosise -- if we finally get that -- plus at least 1 guy not currently on the roster (draft or free agency).
