The Ravens PR staff released the 1st "unofficial" depth chart of the year Friday, with RB Mike Davis the top active player at the position. That still slots him behind J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, who remain on the PUP. Justice Hill, Corey Clement, Nate McCrary and rookie Tyler Badie follow, in that order. These depth charts are notoriously unreliable, especially ahead of preseason debuts for nearly all teams. We'll be watching to see if Badie -- in particular -- works in earlier once the exhibition contests get rolling. In the meantime, Davis is worth considering as a low-owned, end-of-draft option for best-ball tournament rosters.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that there's "certainly a chance" that Ravens RB J.K. Dobbins is not ready for Week 1 of the regular season and that he might even need "a couple weeks" after that. There reportedly has been no setback with Dobbins' recovery from the ACL tear, but the team plans to not rush him back. Gus Edwards -- recovering from his own ACL tear -- "seems like he should be on track" for the opener. We'll certainly watch the status of each player through training camp and preseason. We haven't been close to drafting Dobbins at cost so far this year, though. Rookie Tyler Badie and ex-Falcons RB Mike Davis could factor in early as well, if Dobbins can't go.

Update: Dobbins responded to the Rapoport report on Twitter by saying, "I might not even go on PUP because that's how good my rehab is going and I'm damn sure going to be ready for week 1." We'll see what's true as we get closer to September.

That offensive line did him no favors, of course, and Davis actually ranked 15th among 50 qualifying RBs in Pro Football Focus' Elusive Rating. He arrives in Baltimore alongside RBs J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, who are all coming off season-ending injuries. Davis looks like an insurance policy on Dobbins and Edwards, but we'll keep a close eye on this backfield this summer.

The Falcons are releasing RB Mike Davis, according to insider Jordan Schultz. The move saves $2.5 million against the 2022 salary cap. Davis struggled to just 3.6 yards per carry last year and turned 29 in February. His departure leaves Atlanta with RBs Cordarrelle Patterson, Damien Williams, Qadree Ollison and 5th-round rookie Tyler Allgeier. We like Allgeier's chances to win the Davis role alongside Patterson. The rookie is a nice dynasty target and redraft sleeper.

BYU RB Tyler Allgeier went to the Falcons in Round 5 of the NFL Draft. Allgeier arrived at BYU as a non-scholarship player who spent time at both RB and LB. He eventually earned a scholarship, though, and topped 1,100 rushing yards each of his final 2 seasons. Allgeier reached workhorse status as a senior, delivering a 276-1,601-23 rushing line along with 28-199-0 receiving. He’s not especially speedy or athletic but brings a decent all-around package at 5’11 and 224 pounds. Although he dropped to Round 5, this is as strong a landing spot as Allgeier could have hoped for. He joins a Falcons RB room alongside Cordarrelle Patterson, Mike Davis, Damien Williams and Qadree Ollison. There’s a chance that Allgeier carves out a real role in 2022.

Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson (ankle) is inactive for tonight's game vs. the Patriots. It would have been surprising if he'd been able to play just 4 days after suffering what's believed to be a mild high-ankle sprain. Patterson did get in a couple of limited practices this week, so a Week 12 return seems possible. His absence tonight leaves Atlanta's backfield to Mike Davis and Wayne Gallman. We're betting on Davis leading the way in touches, but it's a murky situation (and a bad running game in general).

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that Falcons RB Cordarrelle Patterson could miss "a couple weeks" with the ankle injury he suffered in the loss to Dallas. Former head team Dr. David Chao believes Patterson has a high-ankle sprain based on video review. If that's the case, a couple weeks would be the best-case scenario. Plan on Patterson at least missing Thursday night's game vs. the Patriots. We'll see when he's able to return from there. His absence will leave Atlanta's backfield to Mike Davis and Wayne Gallman.

The Falcons released RB D'Onta Foreman. Atlanta is down to Mike Davis, Qadree Ollison and Cordarrelle Patterson at RB. We'll see if they add to the backfield over the next few days. But Davis is looking safer and safer as the team's clear lead back.

Scott Bair of the Falcons official site believes Mike Davis will see “200 plus carries.” “They'll use several [RBs] in the rushing attack,” Blair says, “though I think Davis ends up the workhorse.” Our current RB projections have Davis down for 205 rush attempts, so it's a reasonable take. We’ll keep an eye on Atlanta adding another RB as teams make cuts to get rosters down to 53 by 4pm Monday. For now, Qadree Ollison looks like the team’s #2 rusher.

ESPN's David Newton believes RB Mike Davis "might have the edge" for the Panthers' #2 RB job. His competition is Reggie Bonnafon and Jordan Scarlett. The battle is irrelevant as long as RB Christian McCaffrey is healthy, of course. We wouldn't bother spending a pick to "handcuff" CMC at this point.
