The Jets have selected RB Michael Carter with the 2nd pick of Round 4 in the 2021 NFL Draft. As a true freshman, Carter led the Tar Heels in yards per carry (5.8) and TDs (8). He finished his 4-year career with 3,403 rushing yards, playing the past 2 in a near-even timeshare with Javonte Williams. At only 5’8 and 201 pounds, Carter doesn’t have workhorse potential. But he projects as a strong receiver (82 career catches) with excellent elusiveness and agility in all facets. A role with ~15 touches per game could certainly put him in the future RB2 discussion. Landing with the Jets presents obvious opportunity. The biggest challenges already on the roster look like Tevin Coleman and La'Mical Perine.

The Jets have agreed to a 1-year deal with RB Tevin Coleman. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports is worth a mere $2 million. That certainly doesn't set Coleman up as a favorite to control the backfield. He does, however, join new OC Mike LaFleur, who spent the past 4 seasons on the 49ers staff. Coleman also joins a corps that currently only includes La'Mical Perine, Ty Johnson, Josh Adams and Pete Guerriero. Heading into just his age-28 season, Coleman certainly has a shot to play a big role in the Jets' backfield plans. We'll see what else the team adds this offseason, though.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports that 49ers RB Raheem Mostert suffered another high-ankle sprain in Sunday's loss to the Cowboys and is "likely" done for the season. That leaves Jeff Wilson Jr. likely to lead the Week 16 backfield, assuming his own ankle issue doesn't get in the way. Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon sit behind Wilson on the depth chart.

Update: Tom Pelissero reports that the team is placing Mostert on IR.

49ers RB Jeff Wilson appeared to injure his right hamstring late in the loss to Dallas. We’ll update his status when we learn more. Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon are left as San Francisco’s healthy RBs.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. We don't have any details on the ankle injury, but he's clearly in some danger of missing this weekend's game vs. Dallas. Mostert's absence would presumably make Jeff Wilson San Francisco's lead back, with Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon candidates for bigger roles.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) isn't listed on the Week 13 injury report. It looks like he's set to return for Monday night's game vs. the Bills -- his 1st action since Week 8. Coleman can't be trusted in fantasy lineups this week, but he does add a bit of risk to RB Raheem Mostert's profile. San Francisco will have Coleman, Mostert, Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson available vs. Buffalo.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan said Friday that RBs Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson (ankle) will be activated for Week 12 but listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams. The fact that they're being placed on the active roster makes us think they'll play, but we'll look for further updates. RB Tevin Coleman (knee) has been ruled out for Week 12.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) got in a limited practice on Wednesday. He has a shot to return for this weekend's game against the Rams, along with RBs Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson (ankle). San Francisco's backfield is murky as of now. Hopefully it clears up by Sunday.

The 49ers have designated RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson Jr. (ankle) to return from IR. That makes each player eligible to practice this week. We'll see whether either or both are ready to play. The Niners have 3 weeks to decide whether to activate them. HC Kyle Shanahan said before the Week 11 bye that he hoped to get Mostert back onto the field for Week 12. We'll be interested in Mostert as a potential backfield leader if he's ready to go. Wilson would likely be more of a reserve in San Francisco's crowded backfield. Tevin Coleman (knee) -- who didn't land on IR -- will also bear watching through the practice week.

49ers RB JaMycal Hasty broke his collarbone in Sunday's loss to the Saints, HC Kyle Shanahan said. Hasty will be out for a while and can be dropped from fantasy rosters. Shanny said that he thinks RBs Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman will be back after the Week 11 bye. Both of those guys are worth stashing if they're available in your league.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Saints. RBs Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson remain on IR, leaving the backfield to Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal. McKinnon served as the clear lead back last time out, out-touching Hasty 15 to 6.

49ers HC Kyle Shanahan confirmed that RB Tevin Coleman (knee) won't play against the Packers on Thursday night. It's unclear how much time Coleman will miss with this latest knee injury. San Francisco is down to RBs JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon vs. Green Bay's league-worst RB defense.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman re-injured his knee in the 1st half of Sunday's game against the Seahawks. He's officially questionable to return. Rookie JaMycal Hasty has been operating as San Francisco's lead back with Coleman out.

Update: The 49ers have ruled Coleman out for the game.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) is officially active for today’s game against the Seahawks. We’re completely guessing how snaps and touches will be divvied between Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty. But our guess is that Coleman leads the way in carries.

The 49ers have activated RB Tevin Coleman (knee) to the 53-man roster. He's now eligible to play against the Seahawks on Sunday. Assuming Coleman is active, he'll join Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty in San Francisco's backfield. A 100% Coleman would be the favorite to lead the group in touches, but it's unclear how much he's ready to handle after a 5-week absence. Avoiding this situation might be your best bet, especially against a solid Seattle run defense.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) has been activated from IR. That makes him eligible to return for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, although it's still unclear if he'll be ready. We should have a better idea of his Week 8 status by Friday afternoon.

9:10pm EDT 10/26/20

The 49ers placed RB Jeff Wilson on IR with his high-ankle sprain. He's out for at least the next 3 games. RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) is out for at least 2 more games, while RB Tevin Coleman (knee) remains iffy for Sunday's tilt against the Seahawks. San Francisco might be down to RBs JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon for that one. Hasty should be owned in pretty much all fantasy leagues at this point.

Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury reports that 49ers RB Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered a high-ankle sprain in Sunday's win over the Patriots. We'll see about the expected return timeline, but this likely makes Wilson a drop in nearly all redraft leagues. RB Tevin Coleman should return soon and faces big opportunity when he does make it back. If Coleman's not ready for Week 8, then rookie JaMycal Hasty figures to see an uptick in work. He logged 9 carries each of the past 2 weeks.

49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee) "isn't likely" to return for this weekend's game against the Patriots, according to ESPN's Nick Wagoner. San Francisco will also be without RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) for that one, while RB Jeff Wilson (calf) is uncertain. That leaves Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty as the team's healthy RBs.

Niners RB Raheem Mostert sustained a high-ankle sprain in Sunday night's win over the Rams and is headed to IR, according to Grant Cohn of SI.com. That means he'll miss at least 3 games. We'll see beyond that. Jerick McKinnon is the guy we know will be involved in replacing Mostert for Sunday's game at New England. He garnered just 8 touches for 28 total yards against the Rams, though. Jeff Wilson missed Week 6 with a calf injury he suffered during the practice week. That left rookie JaMycal Hasty working in his place against the Rams. Tevin Coleman is eligible to come off IR for Week 7, but we don't yet know whether his sprained knee will be ready. We'll see how this backfield picture develops through the week.
